OLD recordings with bad sound but lots of SOUL. Any LIVE MUSIC.
My favorite musical styles include: HINDUSTANI classical and folk, TURKISH and BALKANIC, especially when played by GYPSIES, anything AFRICAN especially from MALI, all JAZZ and some western 'CLASSICAL' (except for what was fashionable at the time when people thought powdered white wigs and 3/4 length breeches with white leotards looked good).
I like music that brings PEOPLE TOGETHER, comes from THE HEART, and is TRUTHful.

Something different every time, reflecting and hopefully improving the moment.
Started violin and guitar at a young age. Continued learning in countless cross-canadian hippy jams before completing a degree in jazz arranging and composition at Vanier college. For the past 6 years I have supported myself by performing with many different groups, but still consider myself primarily as a student. I have made several trips to Turkey, India and Morrocco to study their styles of playing, and am currently practicing oud and viola while absorbing as much as I can from Turkish and Romanian gypsy music.
I am also learning (and doing a lot of) violin repair and maintenance so if you want your granny's fiddle fixed cheap or are looking to buy, you'll want to see me!
THE HUGE COLLECTION OF BALKAN MUSIC TRANSCRIPTIONS is a book project I have been working on for at least the past 5 years with my friend JEFF of the 'FOUS TZIGANES'. With luck it should be on sale by the end of this year....

Si tu penses que ta journée a vraiment mal commencé, pense à ceux qui ne voient plus le soleil briller, pense à ceux qui n'ont plus de libertés, et vois la chance que tu as, celle de pouvoir vivre une nouvelle journée, et le pouvoir d'en faire ce que tu en voudras...
