BooksEver wish there was a camp devoted to motorsport? Now there is! http://www.CampMotorsport.com What other summer camp will: a) assign you to a race team with other kids your age? b) teach you what race teams go through getting ready for a big event? c) let you suit you up in real driving gear, pull on a full-face helmet, strap into a one-half-scale racecar and take a few laps? Camp Motorsport,, doesn't just get you away from home for a few days. You'll get hands-on experience in safe driving techniques (no, you don't have to have a driver’s license or racing experience) and you'll get a better understanding of how some of the math, science and technology principles you learn about in school apply in racing. Math? Science? Technology? At a summer camp? Sure! If you want to learn about racing, you'll need to know about gear ratios, and how they affect speed and rpm (that's math). You'll need to understand how an engine mixes air and fuel to get combustion and horsepower (that's science) and you'll need an understanding of how to make a car cut through the air with as little drag as possible (technology). And by the way, they call it suspension geometry for a reason! But it'll be the most fun time you've ever spent learning, because race cars are the coolest classrooms you'll ever be in. While you’re at Camp Motorsport, you will: a) learn about racing history; b) learn about caster, camber and trail-braking; c) practice in race car simulators; d) work on your technique with radio-controlled cars; e) design race car graphics on a computer; f) practice pit stops with your team, and then… You're ready! It's time to crawl behind the wheel of a half-scale race car. This is as close to driving a real race car as you can get...only it's your size! So put on your safety gear and learn the basics of safe driving...things you can use when you start driving for real. You'll go through a slalom course, practice throttle-steer and have the time of your life when you try your hand (and foot!) at autocross. You'll learn what it's like to try to qualify on an oval track and a road course. The older you are, the more you'll be involved in head-to-head competition with your teammates. And after you're done on the track, step in front of the camera and tell everyone “what it's like out there.” There may be more pressure to perform in front of the camera than on the track! And like every good race driver, you'll learn to thank your sponsors and when to use the phrase, “That’s racin’!” Camp Motorsport,, is a one-of-a-kind program that teaches you safe driving techniques, teamwork, leadership skills and practical applications for that stuff you learn in school. But most of all, it's the most fun week of camp you'll ever have! Mom & Dad: Camp Motorsport,, is an interactive, hands-on learning environment. It is our mission to reinforce educational principles to your kids through the excitement of Motorsport. At the same time we hope to instill in them safe, positive driving habits that will transfer to driving your car on the street. Too many kids are injured in car accidents each year because they haven't had proper training in quality driving techniques. Each and every program during their week is highly supervised by a staff of trained counselors (we call them team managers) and supervisors. From the time your child arrives at Camp Motorsport,, until they are signed back into your care, they are never without supervision. The safety of your child is our No. 1 priority. Full safety gear is required whenever time will be spent in and around cars. Medical staff is on the premises 24 hours a day to dispense any medication or deal with any illnesses that may arise. Camp Motorsport,, is a challenging program to help your child's classroom, driving and, in some cases, racing education. We want to help motivate your child to learn...but above all, we want your child to have the time of their young life living out the fantasy of being on a real race team, even if it's only for one week at camp. Venue: The famous VIRginia International Raceway, “America’s Motorsports Resort,” is the home for Camp Motorsport,,. Located just south of Danville, Virginia, VIR has been hosting the greatest names in racing dating back over 50 years...now it will be hosting you! The racetrack is not just a backdrop. Camp Motorsport,, is a virtual environment within that historic racing facility. The sights, sounds and memories of racing will be all around you. You'll wake up every morning in a dorm room that once served as a garage for the cars of racing heroes. You and your teammates will have your meals just a few steps away from the infield Pagoda. Together you'll learn about the inner workings of the sport while overlooking the track from one of the scoring towers or maybe from the storied press box or maybe just sitting on the wall at the exit to pit road...you never know what will serve as a “classroom" at Camp Motorsport,,. Sessions run Sunday through Friday during June, July and August. Camp Motorsport,, is for kids age 10-16. Parent/Child Camp Motorsport,,: A weekend program, Parent/Child Camp Motorsport,, allows a mom or dad race fan to attend the program with their child. Adult Programs: Due to popular request, Camp Motorsport,, will operate a limited number of adult weekend programs during 2007. Please inquire about program! Gift certificates are available for all programs! If you have any questions or would like more information, please call us any time at 434-822-7700 ext 103 or write: 1245 Pine Tree Road, Alton, Virginia 24520 http://www.CampMotorsport.com Camp Motorsport,,…..it’s not your same old summer camp!
