A história dos Virgem Suta não é a história normal das bandas de hoje em dia. Não foram descobertos através do Myspace, não fizeram uso das autoestradas da informação para conquistar os milhares de fãs com que poderíamos abrilhantar esta nota. Valeram-se de duas guitarras, da voz e da quase 'ousadia' de uma mão cheia de canções e, sem exageros líricos, as suas auto-estradas foram outras. Perderam a conta às vezes que fizeram o País de Sul a Norte e de Norte a Sul. Mais uma vez, não o fizeram como as bandas normais, a tocar em todas as aldeias e terriolas onde os quisessem a actuar. Não! Habituem-se. Em Suta é um estado exagerado de estar, de viver, de pensar. Eles eram virgens no mundo da música e quiseram demorar o tempo que fosse necessário para se considerarem prontos. Conseguiram-no e brindam-nos com uma belíssima estreia. Ah! É preciso dizer que os Virgem Suta residem em Beja. E aí o tempo, é relativo. Sempre apoiados na conselheria e depois na produção do disco por Helder Gonçalves, dos Clã, os Virgem Suta penaram até ao vislumbre de um trabalho que considerassem decente. Naquela dúzia de canções que compõem o disco, nas repetidas audições, consegue-se perceber o que os caracteriza e porque vão agradando a quem quer que os oiça. Porque não descartam a tradição, transpiram portugalidade e assumem-no. Mas são tão contemporâneos que a raiz portuguesa só lá está porque não têm outro remédio. Não tenhamos dúvidas que se fossem espanhóis, tocariam castanholas. Assim, tocam adufe e cavaquinho porque é isso que lhes é natural. A isto aliam uma ironia que aparece a espaços, insólita, não de riso fácil, mas daquele que só é esboçado depois de se ter desconstruido a mensagem. Os Virgem Suta são Nuno Figueiredo e Jorge Benvinda. Ainda curiosos? They weren't discovered through Myspace and they did not use the information highways to conquer the thousands of fans that could brighten up this press release. Making use of two guitars, voice and the 'boldness' of a handful of songs, with lyrical restraint, they took to other highways. They have lost count of the times they ran the country from south to north and from north to south again, and unlike your typical band they did not accept every little invitation to perform. No! Get used to it! Being in Suta is an elated state of being, living and thinking. They were virgins to the world of music and wanted to take all the time they needed to feel ready. They accomplished their goal it and offered us a wonderful debut. Ah! It must be said that the Virgin Suta are from Beja, south of Portugal... and there, time is a relative thing. With the ever present counselling and production skills of Hélder Gonçalves [known composer, producer and leader of one of the most charismatic Portuguese bands - Clã], Virgem Suta toiled very hard untill they reached a point in their work they were pleased with. In that dozen songs that make up the disk, through repeated hearings, one can see the features that enrapture all those that come across them . Although contemporary, they don't discard tradition and their songs ooze with Portugality. Make no mistake, if they were Spaniards, they would play castanets. So, they play adufe and cavaquinho because it is natural to them. All this is alongside an irony that appears at times unusual and does not ellicit an easy laugh, more like a slow grin that comes only after having deconstructed their messages. Virgem Suta are Nuno Figueiredo and Jorge Benvinda. Still curious?
