Virginia began in 1998 when Louise Miller, Lee Winnick and Alison Wheeler met and formed a band. Influenced by American close harmony bands, the girls set about to become the new Crosby, Stills and Nash but with better legs and no facial hair! In 2000 Lee left and was replaced by Laura Matthews. Over the next 3 years, the girls recorded their debut album 'First Bite', played over 90 gigs around London and made frequent appearaces at The Kashmir Klub, Cobden, 12 Bar, Borderline and The Hope and Anchor in Islington. In addition the girls sang live on BBC Radio London, LBC, Janice Long's show on Radio 2 and 'The Kelly Show' on Ulster Tv. In 2003, having been largely snubbed by the record industry in London, the girls released their single 'Carry Me Home' in the USA on the Warmfuzz internet label and got to number 20 on the FMQB chart, getting around 1350 spins a week across the US, as well as reaching No.1 on the Garageband Pop chart. This gained them a feature in Billboard as the first band to chart on FMQB on an Internet label.
In 2004, the band was put on hold when Alison joined The Beautiful South and Laura had a baby.....Currently there are no firm plans to reform, but with copies of the girls single changing hands on Ebay and most of a 2nd album already recorded..who knows what the future holds?
Just trying to say hi to everyone on the friends list... (it's taking a while) and inviting you to come and take part in the making of the new album via our new daily blog... We're just getting started, but there's already a lot of stuff floating around and we'd like to hear from all of you. So excuse this impersonal opening salvo and come and say hello - either again or for the first time.
Are you a problem to the solution?
Or a solution to the problem?
Do you carry your load,
Unburdened?
Or take to sorrow and woe?
If we share our loads together,
and make a Rainbow Bridge.
We'll cross the stormy canyon,
and breathe the air of Love.
