It could be our musical legacy, the great food or the abundant outdoor activities, but no matter the reason, visitors to Bakersfield always find more than they expect.

Take a trip to the country music shrine Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace. The nostalgic music venue, restaurant, and museum highlight’s the career and legacy of the pioneer of the Bakersfield Sound and co-star of Hee-Haw, Buck Owens.

Hungry? Then it’s time to check out all the locally-owned eateries Bakersfield has to offer. The city is home to the largest population of Basque restaurants in the United States, an experience and taste not to be missed. Fans of Mexican food can find homemade plates made with locally grown produce. When dinner is over and desert is what you’re looking for, head to Dewar’s for some of its famous chews or a handmade malt at the old fashioned counter – a Bakersfield tradition celebrating 100 years of business!

Ready to work off a big meal or just want to see some great scenery? A bike ride on the Kern River Parkway is a great way to see all of Bakersfield, literally. The path runs from near Interstate 5 in the west to the Kern River Canyon entrance in the east, almost 30 miles long! Outdoor attractions include Murray Family Farms where you can pick your own fruits or vegetables, California Living Museum where you can view tons of native animals, or a trip up the Kern River Canyon for a day of hiking or whitewater rafting.

When you get back to town, make sure to check out all the great museums, sports teams, and don’t forget to check into one over 5,400 great hotel rooms!
