I write songs about my life, in any style that happens to appeal to me at the moment. When you listen to my music, you're essentially peeking into my diary. And that's ok with me; my life's an open book.
The thing that drives my life and my art is my Buddhist practice. I'm a member of the Soka Gakkai ("Buddhist Society for the Creation of Value"), a Buddhist lay organization with 12 million members in almost 200 countries and territories. As people look into our practice, try applying chanting (the phrase "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo") to their daily lives and problems, and see that it really works, they want to come and join us, because the Soka Gakkai works diligently to support the practice of its members. Also, the organization, led by its President and mentor, Daisaku Ikeda, works tirelessly for peace in the world, and is a non-governmental member of the United Nations.
The happiness of individuals; peace in the world. They're inextricably connected, and the SGI works to achieve both.
