About me: ¡Viva La Mainstream! (VLM) is a blog devoted to bringing good music back to the internet. For the last year the blogs have been overrun by people proclaiming the death of rock, pop and rap and spending their time glorifying second-rate indie bands that weren't half as good as the music you could hear by simply turning on your radio.
In January of 2007 I was patrolling through some music blogs and realized something; they were all making the same basic claim; "If it's on the radio, it sucks!". Furthermore I kept finding people trashing the bands I loved and saying that if I listened to these bands, I was little more than a mindless corporate sheep
So out of frustration with the way things were, and as a tiny little "Fuck You" to those pretentious indie kids, Viva La Mainstream was born, which is a really glorified way of saying I started this blog. I wanted to be the voice that reminded people that just because a band's in the mainstream doesn't mean that they don't deserve the same praise.
So that's what I do. I talk about the bands I'm listening to, what I'm loving, what I'm hating, and sharing with you the songs that I can't get out of my head. Enjoy.
Who I'd like to meet: In no particular order (except the first):
Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Eddie Vedder, Chris Carabba, Jim Adkins, Trent Reznor, Chris Daughtry, Anthony Kiedis, Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda, Scott Weiland, Slash, Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, Jared Leto, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Billy Joel, Hayley Williams, Sting, Stewart Copeland, MJ Storey, and a shitload of others
Happy Birthday to YOU, Happy Birthday to YOU, Happy Birthday dear MySpace Friend, Happy Birthday to yoouuu! (did you hear that in your head?) Cheers and best wishes for all good things in the coming year! Chris
Thanks for adding me. LOVE your attitude. Good is good. That's all there is to that. Some people have the attitude the success is somehow less holy than being an underground artist seen by just the "elite". Take that a little further and the guy playing by himself in his bedroom is the ultimate in success.
Thanks for adding us and hope you like the music. Today you can download Fall Apart on our myspace site. We should be out your way soon. Sign up on our mailing list on myspace or at www. fiveam. com Thanks for listening and hope to see you at a show soon. If you need a copy of the CD let us know ~ Five A.M.
Wow, thats a pretty far way to get word to but thanks a lot for checking out our music. i'm glad someone out there is still levelheaded enough to not write off any bands for the sake of them making it to the radio. its like we all support the bands all the way up until they start being good enough that the mindless things that i don't like doing like knocking on doors to find shows and promoting my shows are picked up by other people who do the job a whole heck of a lot better then i could ever do it.
It is however the inspiration for my new line of witty road sayings and diy swag.
The story (warning, very techie and dorky moment coming up): my current roommate blew up four of his A7's, i.e, shattering the diaphrams and the compacater was blown free from its mount. Well, me being hyper at the time wanted to mark them with tape with a big 'x'. My roommate said to just put a line of tape and NFG on it (NFG = No F-ing Good). So being the smart ass I am, put my X and marked it not only with NFG but FUBAR too (FUBAR = F-ed Up Beyond All Recognition). Then later, after it was stacked for storage, I added the second bit. It's all going to be on a t-shirt lol
