Hailed by Diapason Magazine, USA for his flawlessly played debut recital in Pittsburgh and impeccable technique' Joseph Nolan is gaining recognition as an Organist of considerable note.
Joseph was appointed Organist of Her Majesty's Chapels Royal, St James's Palace, in June 2004, where he plays for the regular services and assists in training the Royal Choristers. He has broadcast with the choir on Radio 3 and Classic FM and was Organist for a new disc of Handel Anthems to be released on the Naxos label in 2006. Joseph also plays regularly at the Wren church, St Bride's Fleet St.
Joseph was a scholarship holder and major prizewinner at The Royal College of Music, London , and was awarded First Class Hons for his B Mus Final Recital at The Temple Church, London . He was then awarded numerous scholarships from The Countess of Munster Trust, Hattori Foundation and The Royal Philharmonic Society to study with both Marie Claire Alain in Paris and Dame Gillian Weir in London . Joseph has since returned on numerous occasions to The Royal College of Music, Junior Department to teach the organ.
His work as a solo recitalist and recording artist on the Priory, Herald and ASV labels on organs across Europe has been lauded by The Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, The Saturday Telegraph, Diapason (France), Klassik (Germany), Novita-Gennaio (Italy), International Record Review, American Record Guide, Luisata (Holland) Diapason (USA) and Fanfare Magazine (USA). Joseph's last disc from St Ouen, Rouen was played on Radio-France in April 2005.
Mr Nolan has appeared as a soloist and tutor in International Festivals such as Oundle, Thaxted and Cambridge and at venues such as Westminster Abbey, St Paul 's Cathedral, London and St John's College Cambridge . In November 2005, he gave the inaugural recital of the refurbished Ballroom Organ in Buckingham Palace to a very distinguished audience.
Also active as a choral conductor, Joseph was conductor of The University College London Chamber Choir and is Founder/Conductor of Vivamus .With both these choirs Joseph has conducted the London Mozart Players at St John's Smith Square. Vivamus made it's debut at The Royal Festival Hall in December 2004, performing Elijah with the Philharmonia Chorus, London Festival Orchestra and Sir Willard White.
Joseph is also Conductor of the Academy of Voices , a hand picked group of professional singers, which performs mainly contemporary choral music and has Master of the Queen's Musick, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, as its Patron.
Future engagements include a return to the USA , St John's Smith's Square, and the Hochster Orgelsommer in Frankfurt . CD recordings of Widor's 5 th and 6 th Symphonies from St Ouen, Rouen , and contemporary organ music from Coventry Cathedral will be released in 2006. www.josephnolan.co.uk
