Nathan plays the guitar, piano, autoharp, vocal cord, harmonium, keyboard, bass, piano horn, makeshift beat and other annoying things.
He has lovely guests sometimes when he's lucky.
Influences
nico, the turning of summer into fall, björk, lonely lakes, pj harvey, cat power, first snowfalls, marianne faithfull, old organs, cracking rowboats in late august, kate bush...
Nathan was a child that grew up in the prairies of Canada near the basin of a belt of mountains and parklands. He was not musical, only when performing impromptu to Spice Girls cassettes did he show any interest in performance at all. Being forced to join an organized sport or take up a musical instrument at thirteen, he chose the obvious better choice and started taking guitar lessons from his mother's longtime ex-boyfriend. This lasted a year and started him onto songwriting (which was garbage as you can believe).
On his sixteenth Christmas his mother made the monumental move and bought him a cheap Casio keyboard and it was on this keyboard (and later a Cecilian apartment piano) that he taught himself to play the piano. It was also a tool in shaping his then bare songs into fuller, more realized versions of themselves.
Yet he was still without a name!
And like the parting of clouds it came to him on a summer day at a rummage sale, coming upon a working 1920's typewriter costing him about one dollar. Upon further inspection he saw that the typewriter had belonged to a gal named VIVIAN DAVIES which was scribbled in white chalk on the reverse side of the machine.
