Patrick Bullen - Vocals, Guitar, Drums, Tin Whistle, Recorder, Tamborine, Triangle, Glockenspiel ..he claims he can play anything.... I'll let you decide..
Vivien didn't study music growing up. She ran out of her only singing lesson when she was 10, because the teacher asked her to sing in an American accent. She's Scottish, hence running. Sometimes Vivien writes about places, where she has lived, like Italy in the summer time, and Pollok in Scotland. But Vivien mostly writes about love and life, and all things that she has directly experienced.
It all really began when she was 21 and watched a three hour documentary on Dolly Parton's life and musical journey.
My Dad used to drive me and my 4 sisters and my mother to Italy every summer, for 10 years. He played Pavaroti, Andrea Bocceli, The Beatles and Dr Hook mainly on the car stereo. So I learnt nearly every word. I'd say they were all probably my first inspirations, without knowing it.
PATRICK:
Hails from a musical family, and from an early age was very musical but it all really started when one day he "hurt his knee" and was in crutches for 8 months, so decided, what the heck, he'd start writing songs.
New Ep "Small Beginnings" Now Available for £5 . Please email vscotsonmusic@yahoo.co.uk for info on how to purchase.
Before they met, Vivien and Patrick were touring the music scene separately as solo artists. Patrick, originally from Scotstoun in Glasgow, could claim to have music in his blood. His father was well known on the Scottish music circuit where he performed with musicians such as Mat McGinn and supported the Humblebums( Gerry Rafferty, Billy Connelly). It is easy to trace Patrick’s relaxed, confident and melodic style to this esteemed pedigree.
Vivien is also from Glasgow, and was brought up in Carmunnock. Vivien has toured and performed the UK with artists such as country & western star Charlie Pride, Donnie Munro (Run Rig) and Sandi Thom. She has performed and written with other big names such as Marti Pellow and Linda Lewis and has opened for Chris Difford, Paul Young, Ali Bain and Phil Cunningham, to name a few. Vivien’s songs are now being regularly performed and recorded by other artists.
Despite their individual successes, Vivien Scotson and Patrick Bullen are stronger, and project a great chemistry on stage. They are now managed by Perry Hughes, the man responsible for making Russell Watson a huge worldwide success. So who knows how far this new Glasgow collaboration may go?
Vivien and Patrick’s new EP, Small Beginnings, was launched in May of this year, and since then has been regularly played on BBC Radio Scotland by Iain Anderson, Archie Fisher and also Tom Morton, aswell as many local Glasgow radio stations.
