Hi Everyone, I’m writing all current Viz Arts students and our excellent alums to talk about some pretty big deal stuff. I hope this letter finds you well and having great summer adventures and I hope you will all be psyched and eager to participate once you read this. In September, (28 through November 9, 2008) the Birmingham Museum of Art will host one of the most significant groups of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci to be loaned to a U.S. museum . Organized by the Birmingham Museum of Art, the exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: Drawings from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin encompasses one of Leonardo's most celebrated notebooks, the Codex on the Flight of Birds, and 11 important drawings, including one described by Bernard Berenson as the "most beautiful drawing in the world." The drawings have never before traveled as a group nor in their entirety been made available outside of Italy. This is a big deal. Blockbuster! People will come from all over to see this exhibit. An even bigger deal is the exhibition designed to complement the Leonardo show that will be mounted just down the hall in the Sonat gallery… Student Exhibition of Leonardo-Inspired Designs Curiosità and the Creative Imagination: Young Leonardos at Work Today Students and alumni of the Visual Arts and Communications Academy, a magnet school in the Jefferson County School System, create art inspired by the work of Leonardo da Vinci. OK. This is a HUGE deal! The Museum has agreed to feature the art work of our Academy students, past and present, exploring and inspired by the life and work of Leonardo da Vinci. Guys, this is wide open. Because Leonardo’s interests were not restricted to one area or discipline, this project can be approached from many different perspectives. He was a painter, sculptor inventor, military engineer, anatomist, botanist, and geologist. You can totally make this artwork dovetail with the particular themes and issues you already pursue in your own work. You
