INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA CHAMPIONS IN ASIA, EUROPE AND THE USA
"Audience favourites", "award winners", "vocal artists", "entertainer" or just plain old "singers"? Somehow all of these are fitting! But how best to describe vocaldente?
The press is unanimous: Their singing technique is "professional", their drive "phenomenal", they are "bursting with ideas". Apart from their "high level of singing", their "entertaining presentations" and their "imaginative lively choreography" what has been acknowledged above all is their "professionalism", which is "perfect and harmonic", "sparkly and refreshing", "charming and professional", which is to say "musical, funny, good" and all this is presented with "refreshing genuineness": PRESS PACK
They care for an art which is nearly lost: a capella without microphones, the vocal experience without technical implements, unplugged, straight and direct, pure and authentic. If an event, meeting or concert requires the use of microphones, vocaldente has the ability of the amplified performance as well.
vocaldente has managed to immediately win over jury members such as John Potter (The Hilliard Ensemble), Ward Swingle (The Swingle Singers), Anders Jalkéus (The Real Group) from all areas of vocal and a cappella music, from classical music to voice pop: During 2007 and 2008, they claimed victory at the biggest and most significant national and international vocal and a capella competitions in Asia, Europe and the United States: NEWS
Aside from this, the ensemble was successfully competing in the Jugend Kulturell Förderpreis of the HypoVereinsbank and vokal.total in Graz (Austria) in 2007, and was - in both events as well as some of the competitions mentioned above - victorious in the Audiences Favourite category. On top of this, at Asia's biggest and only international competition, they gained the Special Award for Best Choreography and Stage Presence.
So who are these five young men who, using their own ingenious arrangements and without microphones, present us with the charm of the 1920s, the drive of the 1960s and the sound-world of contemporary radio?
Their love for singing was roused at the Hannover Boys’ Choir and at the Hannover University of Music and Drama. They sang in choirs, ensembles, performed in bands and orchestras, and in 2004 came together as vocaldente. Then everything happened really fast: In 2005 they gave their first full-length concerts and attended master classes and workshops with The King's Singers, The Real Group and Naturally 7.
In 2006 they brought out their first CD "Let’s Misbehave", followed by their first tour. They performed 79 times in 2007 alone, both in Germany and abroad – from Austria and Switzerland all the way to Finland and Hungary. In November they gave concerts in three European capitals within the space of one week: Vienna, Budapest and Berlin. In 2008, visits to France, Italy, Slovenia, and a return to Austria and Switzerland were part of over 100 concerts and performances during the year. They also undertook several tours that led them to the USA as well as Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan: LIVE
2009 promises to bring extended concert activity all over Germany. In addition, the five globetrotters will venture out on tour to - amongst others - Scandinavia, the USA again and several Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the states of Hong Kong and Shanghai. In Spring 2009, vocaldente's brand new album will finally be released, and there's plans for a DVD from a concert in the breathtaking Balver Höhlen in the German Sauerland - an atmospheric cave that served as a backdrop for many renowned musical acts - whose release is scheduled for Autumn 2009: LIVE
Five voices in perfect harmony, from the counter tenor to the bass, vocal imitations of instruments embedded in their own lush arrangements, the whole thing broken up by self-mocking texts, amusing interludes and exciting dancing …
