The Croatian vocal group Rivers started in Rijeka in 1999 inspired by gospel music which was afterwards their basic musical expression in fusion with other genres such as: jazz, blues, pop, rock, heavy metal interpreted in polyphonic arrangement. The members are Ana Jaksic, Katarina Juric, Maja Sindicic, Jelena Jankovic, Irena Cepulic and Patrizia Grbac.

The city of Rijeka is famous in Croatia after it's specific music scene which in 80s was one of the leading Rock scenes in the state. The main motto of the musicians in those days was to be different to others. This wave inspired a lot of bands in all genres to experiment with the music in more alternative manners and its expression of freedom influenced future approaches in music. To combine gospel, which is not very usual musical expression in Eastern Europe, with Metal or Pop Rock genre is certainly one of such approaches.

Rivers (the direct translation of the city name: Rijeka) obtained first audience attention by participating in theatrical performances and were awarded twice for theatre soundtrack at the prominent Croatian Theatre festivals. They also participated in creating a musical "The myth of the labyrinth" which was performed in Dubrovnik, one of the most popular tourist cities in Croatia. Before that their singles included arrangements of gospel classics "Happy day" and "Just a closer walk with thee" , but their first success was a single "…A nigdje vala" a Croatian song which focused on soft vocal arrangement with an easy medditeranean rhythm. This song was awarded at the "Dalmatian Chansone 2004", an influential Croatian festival that nurtures high-quality music. This success attracted "Aquarius Records", a Croatian publisher and the exclusive representative of the Universal Music Group and soon Rivers released their debut album with 10 arrangements of world classics arranged and played by the most renowned Croatian jazz musicians who usually perform at world's jazz festivals. After the album that was well-accepted and was regarded by critics as a refreshing music surprise coming from seven young girls they released another single "Parole, Parole" with Massimo Savic, the greatest Croatian interpret (singer) known after his magical tone of voice. It was one of the hits in Croatia in 2006 that was released on several compilations and that was the reason for republishing the debut. The re-published edition included three new songs including a song performed at preliminary competition for Eurovision and awarded song from "Vokal Total" international competition in Austria that got them a Golden Diploma in Open category and 2 prize of "Swingle Award" awarded directly by Ward Swingle, one of the most famous vocal arrangers in the world and a founder of a very influential Vocal Group "Swingle Singers".

At present, Rivers had a huge succesful cooperation with the Big Band of Croatian State Television in April 2007. Two nonths earlier, they got a City official funding award by city of Rijeka for enhancing culture of the region internationally. They were nominated for major Croatian Music Award Porin two years in a row. Their vocal cooperation with one of the Croatian singer celebs in the song "Parole, Parole" was recognized by the Croatian music judicial authority. In summer 2008 they got a silver medal at the World choir games, which is the biggest world vocal competition. At present, they are preparing a new album.
