UK urban music continues to grow and a part of this growth is the very talented Abi.
Abi has a truly great voice and is the one to look out for in 2009. Stardom is a must for this 22-year-old London girl.
Born to Sri Lankan parents, Abi has been singing since the tender age of 8 years old. She is classically trained in Indian Classical, as well as being classically trained in both the saxophone and piano. She also plays a south Indian instrument call the “Veena”. Which she plays to great effect on Varka Tunda, the main mix and acoustic version. As well as being a big fan of bhangra, Abi can also sing in Hindi, Tamil and Punjabi.
This talented songtress has been singing on stage as long as she can remember, winning many singing competitions, and has toured with “Sister India” and sung at a Spanish music festival. She is currently working with some great new songwriters, and already has tracks from producers such as Fridolin Nordsø, (Danity Kane, Cut Father and JJ), The Pause Pushers(Blacksmith), ADP, Prithpal Sirjeet & Chris”Rockizm” Patrick. She is also geared up to work alongside Nitin Sawhney.
Abi was also a recent guest on Bobby Friction’s live show on the BBC Asian Network, performing live.
Taking influences from Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Erykah Badu, Beyonce and Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and many more, “The Voice of Abi” is ready to embark upon a music career, that is ready to take the urban and pop scenes by storm.
