NOW PLAYING
"Don't Call Me Baby" is the band's biggest UK hit, which reached 15 in the UK Charts. From the debut album, "Let It Bee". "Angel Come Down" is by request of Natalie, who's mum once saw an angel herself, and later heard this song and was very touched by it. It is a beautiful ballad, and was the first UK single off the third album "Sex & Misery." The video is gorgeous, but very hard to find. Here's to hoping an official DVD of all the videos will be released someday! "I Say Nothing" Personally, this is my favorite out of all the singles VOTB released. I think it's meaningful to most anyone who listens to it, without being preachy, and the music perfectly compliments the message. Tracey once told me that despite all the record company meddlings they had to endure through the years, this is one of the rare tracks that ended up sounding exactly the way she heard it in her mind when she was writing it. A true classic!
"I Walk The Earth" - Another classic off the debut album, this one is posted here by request! "Love Locked Inside" is a beautiful, emotional and often overlooked gem from the last album "Sex & Misery." Written by Tracey with Zodiac Mindwarp.
BIOGRAPHY
Voice of the Beehive was formed by American sisters Tracey Bryn Belland and Melissa Brooke Belland in London during the late 1980's. Both sisters had grown up in Southern California. Their father, Bruce Belland, was a member of the popular 50's group The Four Preps whose biggest hit was "26 Miles (Santa Catalina)". The girls appeared in many commercials as children and many of their experiences growing up in the San Fernando Valley shaped their lyrics in Voice of the Beehive.
Along with Martin Brett on Bass Guitar, Mike Jones on Guitar, and Daniel "Woody" Woodgate (from Madness) on Drums, the quintet released their debut album, "Let It Bee" in 1988, which peaked at 13 on the UK album chart. The disc spawned the singles "I Walk The Earth", "I Say Nothing", "Don't Call Me Baby", and "Man in the Moon."
The band was a popular live act around the UK, and began gaining some exposure touring in the US, where the album track "There's A Barbarian In The Back of my Car" was popular on some alternative radio stations.
In 1991, "Honey Linger," the second album, was released, featuring the lead single "Monsters and Angels". Additional singles from the album included "Perfect Place" and a cover of the Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You."
Unfortunately, the band members were going through a lot of personal and professional issues after touring for the album ended, and eventually Tracey and Melissa were left with no record contract and no remaining band members other than themselves. So, they proceeded to record their third and final album, appropriately titled "Sex and Misery." The single from the album, "Scary Kisses", was a modest hit in the US and was followed up with "So Hard" which featured a video shot in the LA River Basin - yes, the girls were back home in California at last.
In 2003, the band reunited for the first time in nearly a decade for a holiday tour of the UK, with the Wonderstuff. Several shows on the tour were taped and a DVD was released called "Don't Call Me Baby: Voice of the Beehive Live."

Martin posted a bulletin today about the new band he just joined, with a postscript noting that "Voice of the Beehive will play again live in the future"!!! WOOHOO!! Now, if only we could get them to play in the US... specifically in Houston, where they were actually quite popular, as noted by their thanks of Houston's KRBE in the liner notes of Sex & Misery...
