VOW musicians are legends in their own right.
What influences them to be a part of the Voice of the Wetlands:
*Louisiana loses a football field of land every 30 minutes.
*The wetlands provide 30% of the nation's oil supply.
*The wetlands provide 27% of the nation's seafood supply.
*The government has not given Louisiana the attention it deserves.
*Louisiana needs America's attention.
*And mostly recently, another hurricane could destroy, yet again, South Louisiana, if nothing is done.
*World famous music, food, history and culture call Louisiana's wetlands home.
Formed in 2003 by Louisiana roots musician Tab Benoit, the Voice of the Wetlands (VOW) is a non-profit organization geared to raise awareness of Louisiana's coastal and cultural erosion. Members of the organization come from all walks of life and include musicians, artists, businessmen, public relations professionals and coastal advocates.
In early 2005, Louisiana 's most prominent musicians headed into Piety Street Studios in New Orleans to create what is known as the largest international effort by any organization to bring attention to Louisiana 's cultural and coastal wetland's loss.
The CD features the voice and keyboards of the great Dr. John, the voice and percussion of Cyril Neville of the Neville Brothers, the voices and guitars of Tab Benoit and Anders Osborne, bassist George Porter Jr.,of the Meters, drummer Johnny Vidochovich, the voice and tambourine of New Orleans icon Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Louisiana's pride fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux and the harmonica and accordion of Jumpin' Johnny Sansone.
VOW uses Louisiana's culture as an awareness tool. And now more than ever, our efforts are important, not only to Louisiana, but to America.
Louisiana is one of the richest places in culture and tradition in the world. The food, music, wildlife, seafood, energy resources and everything that Louisiana contributes is in threat of extinction. VOW is an organization open to anyone who believes their voice matters.
