Band MembersDr. John, Tab Benoit, Cyril Neville, George Porter Jr., Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Waylon Thibodeaux, Anders Osborne, Jumpin' Johnny Sansone and Johnny Vidochovich.
InfluencesVOW musicians are legends in their own right.
What influences them to be a part of the Voice of the Wetlands:
*Louisiana loses a football field of land every 30 minutes.
*The wetlands provide 30% of the nation's oil supply.
*The wetlands provide 27% of the nation's seafood supply.
*The government has not given Louisiana the attention it deserves.
*Louisiana needs America's attention.
*And mostly recently, another hurricane could destroy, yet again, South Louisiana, if nothing is done.
*World famous music, food, history and culture call Louisiana's wetlands home.

   About Voice of the Wetlands
Formed in 2003 by Louisiana roots musician Tab Benoit, the Voice of the Wetlands (VOW) is a non-profit organization geared to raise awareness of Louisiana's coastal and cultural erosion. Members of the organization come from all walks of life and include musicians, artists, businessmen, public relations professionals and coastal advocates.
In early 2005, Louisiana 's most prominent musicians headed into Piety Street Studios in New Orleans to create what is known as the largest international effort by any organization to bring attention to Louisiana 's cultural and coastal wetland's loss.
The CD features the voice and keyboards of the great Dr. John, the voice and percussion of Cyril Neville of the Neville Brothers, the voices and guitars of Tab Benoit and Anders Osborne, bassist George Porter Jr.,of the Meters, drummer Johnny Vidochovich, the voice and tambourine of New Orleans icon Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Louisiana's pride fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux and the harmonica and accordion of Jumpin' Johnny Sansone.
VOW uses Louisiana's culture as an awareness tool. And now more than ever, our efforts are important, not only to Louisiana, but to America.
Louisiana is one of the richest places in culture and tradition in the world. The food, music, wildlife, seafood, energy resources and everything that Louisiana contributes is in threat of extinction. VOW is an organization open to anyone who believes their voice matters.

My aunt (Mom's sister) had back surgery this past summer. The doctor that performed the surgery, Dr. Cenac, told my aunt 2 months later that he made a mistake and needed to go back in and correct the error or her back would not get better.

Well she did. Yesterday. During the surgery, he knicked the main artery and she bled to death on the operating table.

Jackie Crochet dead at 5 am this morning.

Stay away from Dr. Cenac!!

BOURG, LOWER SOUTH LOUISIANA

THEY HAVE A LEVEE
ABOUT 4-5 foot left to go
I pray the LORD we make it though
THEY WARNED US THE WATER WAS COMING
BUT WE SAID IT BEFORE
WE NEED SOME HELP
SOMEBODY GOTTA DO SOMETHING
WHERE IS THAT MONEY WE SENT...I MEAN...THE TAXES YOU KNOW
WE SPEND ALL THAT MONEY
AND TIME GOES BY
WE WATCH THE LEVEES BREAK CAUSE THE WATERS WONT SUBSIDE
SHOULD WE LEAVE OUR LAND THAT THEY ALREADY TRIED TO TAKE AWAY
THE GOVERNMENT PLAN IS WHAT?
WHO KNOWS LETS PUT THEM OFF FOR ANOTHER DAY

STOP PAYING YOUR TAXES TO GET ATTENTION
SEE WHAT THEY DO THEN
WHEN THE GOVERNMENT CANT FUNCTION WITHOUT OUR PENNY PEN PENS

PERHAPS WE COULD CHOOSE OUR OWN FORM OF TAX AND PUT IT WHERE IT GOES >>>PROTECTING OUR LAND THAT WE CALL OUR HOMES

GOOD LUCK TAB AND VOICE OF THE WETLANDS

Thanks for the add...
S. Louisiana is in my thoughts & prayers.
I hope the recovery from Gustav goes better than with Katrina & that you
& yours are safe.
The following poem is dedicated to New Orleans & the surrounding coastal area.

Lady of the Bayou / Drowning in Tears

Katrina flew ashore like a wild bird of prey,
devouring the coast and all in it's way.
Raging waves of fury claimed the land as it's own,
breaching the levees of New Orleans town,
sweet lady of the bayou and jewel of the south.
Now, the army corps of engineers
knew the levees were faulty- all these years.
But nothing was done to combat the fears
that soon, New Orleans would be drowning in tears,
sad lady of the bayou and jewel of the south.
All this came to pass as it was foretold,
by so many, all those many years ago.
You've been engulfed in a deadly, toxic brew
and I feared what we'd find as we uncovered you,
bright lady of the bayou and jewel of the south.

Aching hearts are wandering down Louisiana way,
memories of happy days were the best that could be saved.
Her story's far from over and it's still being told,
how government neglect had left her without hope...
but even that, couldn't destroy New Orleans soul,
the lady of the bayou and jewel of the south.
So tell me what we'll do to protect her now,
when her wetlands surrounding are losing ground...
What will we build against the onslaught of waves
when her natural defence has been washed away?
What will we do to ensure each day is safe
when the howling storm clouds appear again
and our hearts are filled with fear again
for our lady of the bayou and jewel of the south?

Don't leave her drowning in tears, drowning in tears...

Unimaginable human suffering and mass animal extinction from global warming.
A national security nightmare brought on by our dependence on foreign oil.
A peak oil crisis threatening economic collapse.
