After 14 years of more or less intense activity, Voices Of Silence is more ready than ever to crush the scene. The group formed in 1994 by guitarist Szabi is true to its style, named power-progressive by some, and poetry metal by others.
The years brought their contribution to a more mature musical approach, so The new songs represent a huge step forward, compared to The deputing EP Stories Of My Ways and the very popular Thunderground. In those 13 years The band appeared on many scenes in The country, and even abroad. The guys opened shows for acts like WASP, LAKE Of TEARS, UDO,CATAMENIA, OSSIAN, TANKCSAPDA, NEVERGREEN,ORPHANED LAND. a.s.o. Nowadays they dont play shows so often, but when they do, they produce a real show for fans of real music. ..........................................................................................................
"The Human Saga"
The Sory.....
After more than five years of songwriting and rehearsing, it’s studio time again. On April the 20th 2008 the last sounds are recorded, for a new, conceptual album, The Human Saga. The recording was done in Studio Mesaj, with sound engineer K. Nimrod. The concept itself is rather loose; you don’t have to read a storybook in order to properly enjoy the songs. Nevertheless, the 11 pieces of music are built around a set of ideas that you can follow. It’s mainly about human nature, the things that we do, our ways, beliefs and destiny since we left the Paradise of ancient innocence, up to the lack of perspectives of our extremely complicated society. This main idea is presented from different points of view in three songs that form an arch: The Human Saga; Gates Of Paradise; The Grand Illusion (The Jester’s Back).
For the first time VOS uses a live choir. In The Human Saga, the Visszhang (Echo) student’s choir, conducted by keyboardist Feri, sings a passage from the Bible, in Hebrew. The words are those spoken by God when He banishes Adam and Eve from Paradise. Gates Of Paradise song is about our eternal pointless search of happiness. Another arch, about dreams and sacrifice is formed this time by four songs: Daedalus’Son is about dreaming and giving everything for a dream, as a deeply human act of sacrifice. Aggressione is the other end of the perspective: killing innocent people in the name of an idea. The song was actually written after the terrorist attacks in Madrid. Die Sonne scheint noch (The Sun is still shining) is a song written in memory of Sophie Magdalena Scholl, a 21 year old girl who – together with her brother Hans and 3 other students - was condemned to death and executed (beheaded) by the Nazis in February the 22nd 1943 in Munich for distributing anti-war leaflets. In the court she reportedly told the judge: "Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just do not dare express themselves as we did." The words “Die Sonne scheint noch” were her last words. Another Dream is about all those rabid fantasies that pretend to revolutionize human life. We have seen them all: fascism, communism and the other “isms”, that tend to come back and haunt us from time to time. Hungry for Life is a song written by Nimrod, the legendary guitarist who played on the first three Altar albums. He’s not just our sound engineer, he has been our role model and friend for a long time, and we’re proud of that. In this song he wrote both music and lyrics, and he also plays the lead guitar parts. This song, and also Back to Life is about the way we lead our lives now: we lead our evil ways running for careers, for success, we’re treading on dead bodies and we don’t even notice how the years are running bye. In the ancient times people worked 4-6 hours per day for survival, and in the remaining time they created wonderful works of art. Now we’re working 8-10-12 hours a day, and that’s all we do. If this is evolution, than something went terribly wrong, because so far the only thing that really changed in human history is the efficiency of killing. The rest is just appearances. Without a Cause is about growing old and the changing of perspectives. We’re truly old when we finally give up our dreams; we get used to our own indifference and accept the presence of the word “impossible”. Favorite Fear was written after 06.06.2006, when the simplified data – 06.06.06 – created a genuine hysteria, women tried to avoid giving birth on that day, and the cemeteries had to be guarded because of the Satanist freaks. It seems that this favorite fear of ours about dark mysticism, the end of the world and all that jazz is deeply embedded in our genes.
The album ends with The Grand Illusion, which continues some of the ideas brought up on the last song of Thunderground (The Jester’s Requiem) and also closes the circle of ideas opened by the first song. Albeit, the album is a mirror that VOS puts in front of those who want to look into it, but beware: it’s not easy to face what you might see there!
