When’s the last time you felt a song in your bones? Not just heard it, but felt it? Mike Craver (Red Clay Ramblers) calls Volatile Baby “just plain spooky.” Carlene Carter calls singer Gina Stewart her “soul sister”, and American Music Belgium named “Traveling Light” one of the top 10 CD’s of 2007.
Producer Don Dixon (REM, “Murmur”) discovered Volatile Baby in Charlotte, NC. Four sophisticated songwriters, singing about dreams and devils and ghosts,
With bone chilling harmonies…Mary London, DJ, calls them “breath-taking”….Brian Dukes, Fayetteville Observer, says “a gorgeous exercise in beautiful harmonies and soul-searching writing”…and RAM MAGAZINE says…”5 out of 5 stars.”

Volatile Baby - 'Blue Lights'
Directed by Joanne Hock Cinematography by Nicole Lobell..
In the words of veteran producer Don Dixon, Volatile Baby sounds like The Carter Family & The Roches decided to team up and record a bunch of newly discovered Gram Parsons songs.
Volatile Baby is the love child of three semi-southern artists: Gina Stewart, Brenda Gambill and Allison Modafferi. Gina, songwriter, actress and composer for the theatre; Brenda, a songwriter, violinist and percussionist from The Doubting Thomas Band; and theatre director and pianist Allison Modafferi are creating a musical landscape that pushes traditional boundaries and pulls at the listener.
Volatile Baby's new release, Traveling Light is available in May, 2006. Guest musicians include Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash, Jim Brock, former drummer for Kathy Mattea, Don Dixon and Wayne Jernigan.
Don Dixon (REM) produced their first full length CD and describes the band best: Volatile Baby builds on the grand tradition of female vocal groups while adding their own ingenuity, spirit, instrumental prowess, and joy. Their inimitable chemistry shines through their songs live and in the studio.
Backroads is the new release featuring David Childers and The Modern Don Juans, Irwin Bostian, Don Dixon and Carlene Carter. The songs were recorded at Reflection Sound Studio, Charlotte, NC-2007. Bob Engel and Gina Stewart produced and engineered the cd with additional assistance by Mike Pepe. The songs were basically recorded live with all the musicians sitting in a circle fashion, a style which we all agreed would honor this stunning tribute to the traditional country songs of Ola Belle Reed and The Carter Family.

You ladies were fabulous! Ok, so I only got to hear one song before heading out on the route, but it was amazing and I continue to receive praises on your show from our cyclists. I can't wait to hear you again soon and look forward to listening to a few more songs...ok, a lot! Thanks again ladies!
Hello Beautiful Ladies! I saw this and it made me think of you. I will come see and hear y'all in October. I hope life is full and each of you are brimming with joy and laughter.
So, I was walking out of the grocery store Sunday when I glanced over at the free magazines and saw familiar faces, so I grabbed a copy of Charlotte Woman and checked out the feature – awesome! Glad to see you ladies getting some press like that, particularly since when I called them earlier this year and asked if they ever did anything involving the women of the local music scene, they said, "That's not the direction we want to go in. " Looks like you changed their minds :) Congrats!
