Yes, The Doors, Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Beatles, King Crimson, ELP, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, The Who, and anything that bears the resounding mark of quality!
Voltage Controlled Orchestra’s mission is simple: to play the best classic rock the best it can be played. VCO is made up of five veterans from the popular tribute bands Envision (Yes), Living in the Past (Jethro Tull), and Mojo Risin (The Doors). Although we cover a wide range of artists, we approach each song as a tribute band would, staying true to the original sound and capturing all of the song’s depth and nuances. Each member of the band brings a high level of musicianship to the mix, and the group features several multi-instrumentalists, giving VCO a broad musical palette to create with.
Inspired by the incredible rock music of the late sixties through the seventies, we tackle some of the most challenging music of the time--songs that most cover bands won’t touch, such as Edgar Winter’s “Frankenstein” or The Allman Brothers’ “Jessica”. But every song we do is well-known and instantly recognizable to any fan of rock music. The flute riff to “Cross-Eyed Mary,” the searing guitar leads in “Black Magic Woman,” the synthesizer intro to “Fly Like an Eagle.” It’s all ingrained in the collective rock consciousness. And yet rarely, if ever, do you hear a rock band cover these songs. That’s what sets VCO apart from the rest.
VCO performs with a formidable arsenal of vintage and modern gear to replicate classic tracks exactly as you remember them. The Moog synthesizer solo in “Lucky Man” is faithfully re-created on a vintage Moog synth. Cutting edge keyboards add the essential sound effects in The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows.” The blazing Hammond organ work on Deep Purple’s “Hush” is played on a real Hammond organ. The emphasis is on LIVE. Nothing is pre-recorded or sequenced. VCO delivers all the raw energy that the performances deserve.
