Started 1987- The Voltones are a bit of a flashback to the 60's - 70's psychedelic era.
A power trio. Their sound is best described as Jimi Hendrix, or Robin Trower on a surf board. They have been around a long time as a regional act. The band was formed by guitarist/singer David Harris in 1987 in Vallejo, California. The band plays mostly clubs,fairs,festivals,in the S.F. bay area.
The band's material is original, yet reminiscent of the 60's & 70's west coast/ San Francisco sound. The Voltones psychedelic, and haunting melodies will take you back in time to when music had something new and mysterious about it. This is not your typical rock band ! The Voltones jam on into new frontiers, and then take you back to places you haven't been in awhile.
The Voltones set includes alot of original material, with a very broad range of styles, reflecting influences of early Robin Trower, or Jimi Hendrix; there's flavors of Eric Johnson, Pat Metheny, Cris Issac, Dick Dale, and Mark Knofler to name a few.
The band also covers tunes in their own style that can be described as "surfy, with a heavy edge". Familiar classics such as "Walk dont Run", or Pipeline ", with extended variations on themes, ass-kicking guitar solos , (all done without the aid of a pic!) warm and soulful, fun and silly, blending melodys from various songs thrown in for the element of surprise, All of the Voltones tunes are fun to dance to, and then some ....just come to listen and have fun !
