Our History
Originally known as the Volunteer Center of San Diego County, the organization was administered as a division of United Way from 1969-1999. In 2000, it became an independent nonprofit. To better serve local volunteers, The Volunteer Center of San Diego County and San Diego Cares merged into Volunteer San Diego in 2002.
