what did more harm?/ the alcohol or the beating?/ at some hardcore shows it's like a fuckin nazi meeting/ extreme left, extreme right, it's all the fuckin same/ got a blinkered ideaology/ achieve their goals by force and pain/ it's easy to belong to this fuckin tribal warfare/ but standing on your own feet with your own mind is much harder/ so who have eyes to see/ and who have ears to hear/let them witness all first hand and start their judgements here.../ what did more harm? the alcohol or the beating? at some hardcore shows its like a fundamentalist meeting.../ i can firmly understand the straight edge reasoning/ and abstaining from drugs is a good thing to be achieving/ but straight edge to me is about self control/ and not behaving like a fucking asshole/ so whether violence straight/ or whether violence pissed/ aint no long term benefit in ruling with the fist

VOLUNTEERS - formed 2003
here's some reviews of our last 7":
Volunteers are pretty prolific with several full length releases under their belts and splits and compilation appearances all over the shop. Its great to see a band like this from the U K and really going for it. I have to applaud them for playing music which they obviously love. It reminds me of U K bands like IMBALANCE and PILGER but ith a 7 SECONDS (f they were from NYC) feel. Lyrically they are bang on and their songs get you thinking especially ..The Peds.. which is an attack on gore/horror films. A very good take on the topic and hopefully making a lot of people think about what they..re watching. I..ve still never seen this band live but would love to. Another winner for the U K punk rock scene. VIS U AL OFFENCE on the flip are new to me. More fast paced hardcore punk rock which has stacks of energy. I..m into this lot as well. They know how to pen a good riff, the bass playing really keeps things together and it all clatters along nicely. Sadly no lyrics and i..d like to know what ..Smacked in the Head.. is about for starters. Plus their side of the split is called ..Beatoff in the Beatdown.. with a drawing of people with strap on cocks beating people up!.-RIPPING THRASH
Two UK hardcore bands playing some good aggressive music – fast and loud drilling guitars and rapid drumming make for a cool delivery from both bands. They both have similar energy and musical styles going on here. VOLUNTEERS wrote some interesting lyrics in their song, “The Peds.” It talks about a film that the vocalist saw about pedophiles and shares his disdain for the filmmaker’s exploitation of such matters. Good stuff. – MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL
JAMIE IRIE is working with top reggea band HOUSE OF RIDDIM at the very moment on a L.P called KINGSTON 13 and will have some new releases this year and a tour to follow.look out for him. www.myspace.com/houseofriddim .
WORDS CAN BE SO SIMPLE .A video shoot at various locations UK. and J.A by Chris Ilston of CRIZ.E produtions .......
( WORDS CAN BE SO SIMPLE) backed by the HOUSE OF RIDDIM with a solid bass and wicked horn section and drums to rock with. A tune for the reggea music fan at its very best . This tune will make you get up and go and move you forword to a positive state of mind. www.myspace.com/houseofriddim Jamie, here's my HONEST opinion & comments.... "Words can be so simple...Actions..." YES, but MUSIC also speaks louder than words....& thats EXACTLY what this tune does. From the intro chants of "LION....LION!", you get the feeling of positivity & strength from the word GO! The bubbling riddim track is met with uplifting vocal vibes from Mr Irie. A tune aimed at those who talk 'round di ting' & don't seem to put talk into motion, this song hits the spot. A vibesy tune to fill the air with as much punc
LAST GANG IN TOWN STRUMMERVILLE BENEFIT & LAST GANG’S 6th BIRTHDAY GIG
THE YALLA YALLAS are a fantastic punk rock ‘n’ roll band from Leeds. Their name was chosen as a rallying call to unify. “So long liberty, lets forget you didn’t show. Not in my time” a sentiment expressed on an early Joe Strummer recording & one which struck a chord with the band and their audience. Some members have appeared in The Dead Pets, 3milehigh & The Gushers & they now share a common goal to bring anthemic mayhem to wherever they play. http://www.myspace.com/theyallayallas
THE TAGNUTS Cambridge “Gimp-Core” ska punkers are back! After almost a year away The Tagnuts are ready to do it again. This is the hometown night of a UK tour that sees them playing across the country.http://www.myspace.com/thetagnuts
THE TEN-O-SEVENS These four lads combine elements of early punk rock with the sound & attitude of the most obnoxious of garage punk bands. Their songs are fast, loud, snotty & catchy simple chord tight style tunes that will stick to your head like cheap superglue! http://www.myspace.com/krummylanky
