Influences are pretty varied across band members and this is reflected in our material. Whilst our Rammstein roots play a key role in some of our earlier stuff, Progressive metal artists such as Dream Theater, Ayreon, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and Symphony X are central to our current direction and inspire most of the new material. The style of the vocals is very much influenced by artists such as Type O Negative and Alice Cooper, encorporating much of the crude humour and dark themes they favour.
Sounds Like
An amalgamation of several genres which are never really sure which direction they want to take.. so all of them end up in there. This will be very evident on our E.P... (check the blog)
Von Der Hinter are a progressive metal band from the Northants area currently consisting of Hannah (vocals), Sam (Guitar) and Jacob (Keys). We are currently searching for both a permanent drummer and bassist with our former drummer Adam (Alter the Ancient, LSCT) having been kind enough to offer his talents for our recent gigging exploits and upcoming E.P. The band started out life in early 2005 purely as a covers band, focusing mainly on Rammstein (hence the name), with other covers by the likes of Ayreon, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius being thrown in the mix at later dates. During this time we played a handful of gigs around the Northamptonshire area.
2007 saw a complete change of line-up with guitarist, drummer and vocalist all going their separate ways and the band deciding to take a more original route. With keyboardist/songwriter Jacob and co-writer Sam being heavily influenced by bands within the progressive and power metal genres, this began to reflect in the material with the band slowing moving away from its industrial origins and down a more experimental route. The upcoming E.P (Elusive Reality) demonstrates the vast cross-section of sounds that inspire the band members; from moody ballards (Greyest Cloud) to fast-paced power metal tracks (Some Heroes Die) to downright heavy, progressive numbers (Eyes of Hades).
2008 has seen yet another change within the bands structure. It has seen the original EP recorded and several gigs played but due to both Jacob and Sam wishing to take the band in other directions Jamie and Gary were asked to leave so that something new could be brought into the mix. After a few discussions and general drinking bouts a new vocalist was found in the form of ex-Jagged singer Hannah. She will be taking over the vocal responsibilities and due to also being a guitarist should also bring a new input to the writing of future songs. The bass position is currently unfulfilled as is the position of a drummer. Will VDH ever find their ultimate direction? Will there ever be a member who lasts longer than Jacob? Will pizza eating become the new national past time? Who knows. Stay tuned
