It all began many years ago growing up in Red Hook Brooklyn
one of the toughest areas in Brooklyn known for its high drug and murder rates.
Von Roberts began his journey into the music industry beating beats all the walls
and freestyling with fellow mc's in the exits of Red Hook and John Jay High, While trying to maintain and be able to survive while living in a rough area like many we went on to form a rap group by the name of Kinzmen, Thanks to Shabazz the Disciple with the help on coming up with the group name and guiding us positively through our developing stages while baz had us attending studio sessions we began our mixtape journey as Baby J music producer out of the UK heard our music through Shabazz and liked what he heard he began placing us on his mixtapes in 1997, With the success of the mixtape venture our new producer took it to the next level by independently launching a compilation album of various artist selling units throughout UK and the US,
with the attention focused on the new group the compilation shortly received 3 mics in The Source magazine and a nicely placed album review in HHC magazine Kinzmen began focusing attention on getting major exposure for the music we had done - As everything seemed to have peeked at climax soon personal issues aroused between group members some issues began to take toll on the group which caused everyone to sadily depart, Shortly Von Roberts began readjusting himself into the music industry without having to deal with the responsibilities of being in a rap group, "I knew being in a group can make you or break you" alot of problems can surface while dealing with others because you become "one" if one person gets locked up, shot, go on vacation, or move across town it can and will hurt the group severely. I continued on as I wrote songs and saved whatever money I got my hands on so I can to invest in myself, I bought studio equipment and applied what I learned shorty I began bangin out some serious beats it was like all this good music was bottled in and I had to get it out- now years later learning through trial and error, I'm currently recording and producing music, Von Roberts is here to stay and is sure to make his mark with his music.
