My background and experience: I have been working in management at Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream since 1999. I have managed the Ben & Jerry's in Roseville, Sacramento, Concord, Berkeley, and Davis. I oversaw multiple stores from 2000 to 2002 until I decided to go back to school and I have lived in Davis since 2002 and I continue to manage the Ben & Jerry's downtown. I feel this gives me a unique perspective. From working over the ice cream counter I have met all kinds of people over the years. I know the college students, the downtown professionals, and the families. Although I have a primarily student base I feel that I can represent everyone. I am very proud to be a member of Davis' community. One of my favorite things is being recognized by children as "the ice cream man" while out and about town (most commonly this happens at the Farmer's Market or at grocery stores).
While in Davis I have been a DJ at KDVS as well as the underwriting director of the station. I was the student coordinator for the "No on K" campaign. That was a tough battle.
I have also volunteered with the Davis Citizens for Representation educating people about the "choice voting" movement in Davis. I am a strong supporter of choice voting as I believe it is simply a better way of voting resulting in more accurate representation than the current system used in Davis.
As far as the important matter of government experience, I have served as an ASUCD Senator since Winter of 2005. The ASUCD Senate operates a budget of nearly 10 million dollars. It is a governing body elected by the undergraduates at UC Davis. As a governing body the senate is in charge of a long list of services and businesses such as the Coffee House, Unitrans, KDVS, California Aggie, Campus Copies/Classical Notes, Picnic Day, Whole Earth Festival, US Post Office (at the Memorial Union), Refrigerator Services, Aggie Student Store, Project Compost, Creative Media, El Rodeo Yearbook, ASUCD Book Exchange, AS PAPERs, Bike Barn, as well as having seven commissions within the organization that deal with legislation and informative programs. The senate meets weekly but must also attend many other meetings weekly as well as hold office hours.
As a senator I served specifically on the Transportation and Parking Advisory Committee (which works with Transportation and Parking Services), the senate representative to the Campus Media board (which oversees the California Aggie and KDVS), and on the summer advisory committee for Unitrans.
One of the best things I have learned as a senator is the burden of representative responsibility. I will admit that I have done things that I regret because on an occasion or two I over expressed my own personal opinions (that were in the minority) instead of trying to think of every perceptive and choosing the one would be the most beneficial. This is something that must be learned with experience and while I am running with predominately the student perspective in mind I can understand the perspective's of others and I am able to act as a representative of more than one community.

Lamar Heystek (who is also running for city council this election and I support him as we have similar views. Lamar has also stated that he supports my campaign), Bob Black (former ASUCD President that was elected to Davis City Council, he is credited with starting Unitrans), and Chris Jerdonek (activist that got Davis talking about "choice voting").

Running for office is a rewarding experience. I am very thankful to all of my supporters. I know that in the days following the 2008 election I said that I would run in 2010 but given the difficulties of the economy and my own student loans I decided that I must get my own finances in order before I should ask to be involved in the city's. I am currently living abroad teaching English in South Korea. I will return to Davis, as the community is dear to me, so this page, although inactive, is kept alive. Thank you, Rob Roy
I aim to keep Davis a unique place with an emphasis on environmental and economic sustainability. We need to maintain our emphasis on independent business and not sprawl out. New sub divisions spread the school district too thin. We need to build affordable infill housing. I will support Measure J and help write a strong General Plan to maintain Davis' quality life for future generations.
I also aim to curb the decline in biking in Davis, make us do more than green washing - we need to continue to be leaders in environmental planning and Environmental Justice.
Also, the median age of Davis is 25 so let's get serious about giving younger folks in town a safe place to enjoy a good time - that they actually want to go to. I would like to partner "Third and B" Teen Center with the ASUCD Entertainment Council to create a project similar to the the 924 Gilman project in Berkeley.

Who I'd like to meet: I will be tabling regularly at the Farmer's Market as well as on the UCD campus so that you can tell me your concerns and suggestions in person. I strongly belive in community input.

Wow... I gotta repeat this. EVER SINCE YOU GAVE ME A BUTTON FIRST, EVERYONE HAS BEEN WANTING ONE?
Citizens, let us remember that the legacies of progressive policymaking in Davis we enjoy today are in fact the direct result of the efforts of a few committed UC Davis students who overthrew the ossified ruling gentry of the city several decades ago. Now it is time for today's concerned students, for the aging landowners whose liberal sensibilities have not been dulled by avarice, and for those Davisites who have moved beyond the city walls to work together to reverse the slow but disconcerting abandonment of the values that have made Davis unique, to again work to rebuild an innovative, culturally enriching, educational, and (in the future) affordable and diverse city.
It has been done before, and it can be done again.
