NEWS FLASH: THE GOVERNORS NOT INVOLVED IN PROSTITUTION RING
Monday, March 10, 2008: Despite recent reports of New York Governor, Eliot Spitzer, and his involvement in a prostitution ring, The Governors are in no way involved in such acts. We are only concerned with foot stompin, hoot and hollering, and large sing-a-longs with warm musical accompaniment. Thank you for your understanding.

THE GOVERNORS SHAKE HANDS, KISS BABIES, AND TAKE NAMES
We are proud to announce the completion of our first full length, recorded live by Emeen Z at Uncle Max’s Cave. All twelve songs are available for free download.. half on Myspace, half on Virb.com.
Brooklyn’s The Governors play a gruff, shambling version of indie-folk that calls for crowd participation, yet the sing-alongs it inspires are less "Kumbaya" and more "Rainy Day Women" -- raucous shanties meant for railway hoboes and modern-day pirates, banged out on cigar-box guitars and sung with a whiskey-fueled insouciance that’s sure to wake the neighbors. The band appears here as part of its "farewell" tour, sending off Texan member Gabe Rothschild and celebrating the recent release of its debut "Shake Hands, Kiss Babies, and Take Names." Don’t miss your chance to say both "hello" and "goodbye." Beauty Bar’s resident Tighten Up DJs spin the vintage rock and soul afterward.
Review from Soundcheck Recommended Shows: February is for (Music) Lovers
2/6 - The Governors - Beauty Bar, Austin, TX: They might sound like they’re a local band, or from one of our sister cities like Denton or Athens, but in fact, these southern roots grow in Brooklyn (as does a tree, or so I hear). Nevertheless, come check them out and you will find yourself embracing them as one of our own. - Emily Strong
Review from The Deli Magazine The Governors Gear Up for Black Betty Show
Hear ye, hear ye New York City, your unofficial elected officials, The Governors, are holding a referendum at Black Betty in Brooklyn on Thursday, Aug. 23, and you better be there to cast your vote for what may be the best new live band in the city. These gentlemen weave folk, country, and sublime melody into pure, infectious pop bliss, engaging the audience in the kind of organic sing-a-long one would expect to participate in at a party with friends—which, as a matter of fact, is exactly how this show will feel once the Governors grace the stage. Audience members are encouraged to sing-a-long (it’s part of the experience!). After all, if you can’t unseat the incumbents, you might as well join them. - Bill Dvorak

Thanks for taking a chance and making space for some vaudevillian ragtime/jugband blues and hillbilly swing!
