Vote No On Prop 8's Blurbs
About me:

We will not give up

The road to freedom is a difficult, hard road. It always makes for temporary setbacks.
--Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tuesday's vote was deeply disappointing to all who believe in equal treatment under the law.

All Americans are harmed when any of us are discriminated against or have our fundamental rights taken away.

Make no mistake, this fight is not over.

We remain committed to ensuring full equality under the law, just as the thousands of same-sex couples who joyously married in California are committed to each other.

While it is understandable to be angry that a deceptive campaign could lead to such an unfair and wrong outcome, we need to keep focused instead on the progress we have made.

Thousands of volunteers and contributors gave selflessly to this fight for equality. Political leaders—Democrats and Republicans alike–took strong stands and spoke out against the distortions against us. Clergy, labor, educators and business leaders eagerly joined our cause. And we came within 4% of making history and protecting marriage equality in California.

The momentum is clearly on our side.

So, as disappointed as we are, we know that there is still hope and there is still love and, yes, there is still work to do. With our continued effort and by building on the support generated in this campaign, we will prevail. There will be equality. For us all.

Ultimately, America's answer to the intolerant man is diversity, the very diversity which our heritage of religious freedom has inspired.
--Robert F. Kennedy

Bad news and good news. Bad news is that we lost but good news is that there have been many lawsuits already! Maybe something will happen.

Let's not be saddened by the reported outcome.....2M votes still left uncounted and we must use that anger and sadness to band together and unite to continue this fight for Equality in this great state. I got married on June 27th and I refuse to allow others to tell me my marriage to my partner of over 18 years is invalid or not recognized as equal to other valid marriages.

We MUST not lose hope and we MUST not give up.

This proves that EVERY vote counts and that we can overcome this if we unite.

Obama's win speaks volumes about what we can accomplish if we unite.

The fight is FAR from over!!!!!

As a straight woman, I can not even imagine the feelings that my gay friends, neighbors, brother and sisters are feeling. I voted No. All of my friends and family voted NO. I guess I assumed that everyone felt the same way. I was wrong, I am living in a bubble.

I am so ashamed of my county... San Bernardino. I am so ashamed of California right now.

This fight is not over. I hope everyone will continue to fight and never give up.

Some have said PROP 8 has passed, while optimistic "no on 8 supporters" say its still too close to call... you can say i was one of those,

but you know what??

who really cares about the outcome !!!

WE DONT NEED THE GOVERNMENT ( or anyone ) TO VALIDATE THE UNION BETWEEN OUR PARTNERS ( gay or straight ) !

Seriously, why do we need that piece of paper?

Something to think about.......

This is ridiculous! California Voters gave rights to Animals, yet took ours away. How could this happen? Does anyone know what happens next? Am I still married to my husband? When does Prop 8 become law?

I can't stop crying
****KRIS10****

Nov 5 2008 10:54 PM

im So saddened by the results. I have always been supportive of gay marriage and equal rights! It is not fair that I can get married, but some of my fellow Californians can't. Everyone is equal, no matter their differences in color, gender or sexual orientation. I hope our courts can overturn this.
Christina

Nov 6 2008 12:08 AM

To paraphrase Public Enemy, it literally takes millions of bigots to *try* and hold us back, but they will not succeed. On to success in the writ before the California Supreme Court and to the extension of the right to marry whom we choose to *every* state in this great country.

I am so bummed, but still hopeful. My heart goes out to all the families affected by the "yes" decision on Prop 8. Lots of love for all you did in the fight against prejudice.

I voted NO on Prop 8 & So did many of my friends and family members.

I was upset yesterday while watching the news that YES ON PROP 8 had a higher percentage and couldnt think of anything else but how cruel our world is. I dont see how its constitutional to take an individuals rights away. Its like your married one moment and the next your not??? Its a bunch of BULL$HIT!!! And all i could do about it was cry.
I really hope that the proposition fails - im keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

America is NOT a "Land of the free" until ALL of her citizens are granted the very same rights as their neighbors.

If 8 does indeed pass: Shame on this state and this country. And my love to all of you out there who have fought against it and to all of you who will suffer from it.

JARED FROM OREGON....Your idea is perfect....please...let us gay men and women show a little courage....we always come across pathetic when we are slapped acorss our faces....anyways....Im going to repost what JARED wrote...

Hello from Oregon. Good luck. We had the displeasure of a narrow loss 4 years ago.

In the event the unthinkable happens, and the population vote to steal rights from one segment of the population, my recommendation is to do the following:

Pick a segment of the population, say Baptists and Methodists of California, pick a freedom, say owning homes of land in California, and then collection signatures for a Electoral Proposition to bar said segment from said freedom.

They will get angry and sue that it is unlawful for one segment of the population to vote away the rights of another segment of the population.

Senator Barbara Boxer said in an interview, she did not appear in TV ads that urged voters to vote no on Prop. 8, like fellow Californian U.S. senator Dianne Feinstein did, because she was not asked.

“The campaign asked me to do certain things, send e-mails, do calls,” she said. “I did whatever they asked me. I would have done anything.

THE TIME HAS COME TO MOVE ON TO A GREATER CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT. ON THIS HISTORIC DAY, THREE STATES, FLORIDA, ARIZONA AND CALIFORNIA, THE MOST LIBERAL STATE IN THE NATION, HAS VOTED TO ABOLISH GAY MARRIAGE. WE THOUGH THAT IF CALIFORNIA WERE TO PREVAIL VOTING DOWN THIS AWFUL PROPOSITION THAT WE WOULD SET THE STAGE FOR THE REST OF THE NATION AND THE REST OF THE WORLD. HOWEVER OUR TIME HAS NOT YET COME.
ALTHOUGH THERE'S STILL HOPE. WE HAVE ONLY LOST BY 400,000 VOTES OUT OF 10 MILLION AND THERE ARE STILL 3 MILLION ABSENTEE BALLOTS TO BE COUNTED HERE IN CALIFORNIA. I FIND IT HARD TO BELEIVE THAT THE ENTIRE COUNTIES OF LOS ANGELES AND SAN DIEGO WON YES ON PROP 8. I BELIEVE WE HAVE A CONSPIRACY ON OUR HANDS, WHICH WOULDN'T BE HARD TO BELEIVE DUE TO THE HORRIBLE LIES THAT THE PROPOSITION 8 GROUP HAD PORTRAYED GAY MARRIAGE TO BE. IM NOT SURE THAT 3 MILLION MORE VOTES WILL LEAD US TO VICTORY, BUT I HOPE AND PRAY. WE HAVE COME ONE STEP CLOSER. IN 2000 WE LOST BY A HUGE MARGIN. 8 YEARS LATER WE MAY HAVE LOST BY A SLIM MARGIN. WE MUST KEEP FIGHTING. IT TAKES DECADES FOR CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENTS TO TURN PEOPLES HEADS. IT TOOK 40 YEARS TO ABOLISH AFRICAN AMERICAN SEGREGATION, IT TOOK DECADES FOR WOMEN TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE. AND ALL OF THOSE MOVEMENTS HAD A HUMANITARIAN LEADER AND A WHOLE NATION OF PEOPLE TO FOLLOW. WE HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN THIS FIGHT. I BELEIVE THAT ALL GLBT PEOPLE OF OUR NATION FROM ALL STATES NEED TO STAND UP AND TAKE ACTION, PROMOTE A HUMANITARIAN LEADER AND TAKE OUR FIGHT TO THE WHITE HOUSE, SO THAT WE CAN MARRY IN EVERY STATE IN THE NATION, AND ABOLISH ORIENTATION DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE. WE ARE PEOPLE BORN WITH OUR ORIENTATION AND THIS BIGOTRY IS JUST NOT RIGHT. I LOOK FORWARD TO A NATIONAL COALITION OF GLBT CIVIL & * EQUAL* RIGHTS FOR ALL COMING SOON. WE WILL TAKE THIS NATION BY STORM. WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS AWFUL BIGOTRY. WE WILL PREVAIL. WE WILL WIN THIS FIGHT.

PEACE AND LOVE FOR ALL,
ERIC PETERSON, SF BAY, CA

It's a sad and disappointing day in California. I can't believe we chose to legislate hatred and discrimination. I thought we were better than that. Maybe I was just fooling myself. Just keep up the good fight.

Nov 6 2008 4:48 AM

i voted no on prop 8. i talked to a lot of people who voted yes. majority of those people were parents with young children and they said they didnt want their kids learning that in schools. i asked them to think for a moment and see if that makes any sense that they teach about being gay in school, like really, when do they teach it, in between math and science? the commercial was obviously a lie to scare people. almost everyone i said that to said i guess you are right i wish i didn't vote yes.

I know things look grim, but no matter what happens, I will be proud to have supported No on 8 along with my husband and my daughters. My girls are being raised to be loving and accepting members of society and I am so proud of the stand they took with no on 8 at their young ages of 11 & 14. They have learned more about love and kindness in the past few weeks and I will always be grateful for that. Keep up the fight...we will always stand on the side of fairness and equality for ALL americans.

If i could vote, i would defently vote no on prop 8.
and if i was a superslick undercover chick, i would defenetly rigg the votes so prop 8 could not and will never pass!

PROP 8 IS DISCRIMINATION AND ANOTHER EXCUSE TO ELIMINATE RIGHTS!
bRiTtAnY

Nov 6 2008 6:17 AM

What ever happened to “liberty and justice for all”? Of course prop 8 passed. It was a proposition against a minority group. When voting in a democracy the majority wins. When the government lets the people decide the minority will always get screwed. That is why the court system needs to step in and protect minority rights. Supposedly in the United States of America everyone is treated equally. Isn’t discrimination against the law?
Just because prop 8 passed doesn’t mean that we can give up. We need to go higher than the vote and make the government give the minority the same rights as everyone else. There should be no such thing as second-class citizens, in a country that boasts “liberty and justice for all”.
