The Vox Ethnika Band delivers energizing performances, of original and traditional ethnic Eastern European music set to unique modern arrangements while still preserving the depth, fire and heart of the songs.
Vox Ethnika literally means Ethnic Voice. The name was selected to represent the soul inside all of us who share a common heritage and acknowledge our customs as a source of inspiration. They are dedicated not only to the continued existence of traditional music but also the creation of creative, expressive- world music. They also compose original music.
The band was founded by siblings Juraj and Silvia Matolak in 1994 as S-Harmony and has since collaborated with numerous accomplished musicians in the NYC area. Juraj, the musical genius and mastermind behind Vox Ethnika, composes and orchestrates most of the music for the band, holds a degree in music composition and plays numerous instruments – his first one being accordion which he picked up at the age of 3. His vision of combining various ethnic style textures with polyrhythm and audacious key variations has paved the way for the conceptualization and creation of a new genre of Folk that he has coined, “Ethnik Electronika”. He is also a skilled producer, sound designer and has done numerous pre and post production projects for accomplished artists on the East Coast. Silvia is the vocal chord of the band. Her melodramatic mezzo-soprano voice has won numerous singing competitions and brings chills to the crowds…
