Nel borgo medievale di Magliano in Toscana si svolgerà la seconda edizione di Vox Mundi Festival, rassegna di Musiche dei popoli della terra, promossa dal Comune di Magliano in Toscana con la direzione artistica di Carla Baldini.
Anche quest'anno il Vox Mundi proporrà un fantastico viaggio attraverso le musiche del mondo: artisti provenienti da ogni parte del pianeta si esibiranno dentro le antiche mura di piazza del Popolo, nel palco allestito davanti al vecchio frantoio.
Il programma del festival comprende 6 concerti, dal 4 LUGLIO all'8 AGOSTO 2009. Apertura sabato 4 luglio con la musica cubana del gruppo MAMBI, cinque talentuosi musicisti che reinterpretano i più noti generi musicali dell'isola caraibica: el Son, la Guaracha, la Habanera, l’Afro e la Rumba - musica tradizionale cubana per eccellenza. Voce solista del gruppo è Carlos Miguel Hernandez. Cantante poliedrico nato e cresciuto a L’Havana, è stato lead vocal in orchestre guidate da leggende viventi della musica cubana come Argelia Fragoso, Anabel Lopez, Donato Poveda, Luis Carbonnel.
Per la seconda data il Festival sbarca in U.S.A., sulle rive del Mississipi. Venerdì 10 luglio infatti sarà di scena la Mp DELTA BLUES ORCHESTRA, una formazione di 14 elementi guidata dal bluesman Micki Piperno, che per l'occasione ha invitato come special guests due icone della musica nero-americana: il cantante Harold Bradley e il sassofonista Eric "Saxman" Daniel. Il 18 luglio musica mediterranea con il progetto CAPONE & BUNGTBANGT, la band napoletana che suona un formidabile set di strumenti "ecologici" costruiti con materiali di riciclo: utensili da lavoro, scope con elastico da sarta, scatole di gelato, pezzi di parquet, bidoni della spazzatura, rifacendosi fra l'altro all'antica tradizione dei bottari. I BungtBungt sono notissimi anche al pubblico televisivo come protagonisti della pubblicità di "Tim Tribù" e per aver interpretato al Festival di Sanremo 2007 "La paranza" in coppia con Daniele Silvestri.
Sabato 25 luglio giunge a Magliano il gruppo di ALEXIAN SPINELLI: musica zingara, passionale ed energica, nostalgica e vitale, interpretata magistralmente da un virtuoso della fisarmonica che è anche ambasciatore e divulgatore della cultura Romanì.
Il 5 agosto è la volta della Spagna, con ESMERALDA Y PASION FLAMENCA. Esmeralda Grao è una delle migliori cantautrici spagnole , vincitrice fra l'altro del Festival di Benidorm (l'equivalente del nostro Sanremo) . Figlia d'arte, presenta un "metissage" fra classici della tradizione e sue composizioni originali frutto del suo "sangre flamenco". La parte visuale dello spettacolo è affidata alla bravissima ballerina Lorena Marina Iglesias Juarros.
Sabato 8 agosto gran finale con "Voci e Percussioni in Bianco & Nero", incontro fra VOCAL SISTERS (gruppo afro-maremmano guidato da Carla Baldini) e KONKOBA (moderni "griot" senegalesi) che dà vita ad una festa multietnica di canti, musiche e danze.
Questi, in sintesi, i contenuti del Vox Mundi Festival, un incontro fra identità culturali e musicali lontane ospitate in Maremma, una terra antica che custodisce con fierezza le proprie tradizioni ma sa anche aprirsi al confronto con le culture altre: le mura di Magliano in Toscana diventano quindi simbolo di incontro ed accoglienza.
I concerti avranno inizio alle 21,45 e come consuetudine del Vox Mundi Festival saranno preceduti da una degustazione di vini e prodotti tipici locali (ore 21,15). The festival program has 6 concerts, from the 4th of July to the 8th of August. Opening night on Saturday, the 4th of July with Mambi's Cuban music, five talented musicians that reinterpret the most popular musical genres of the Caribbean island: el Son, Guaracha, Habanera, Afro and Rumba - all typical traditional Cuban music. The lead singer of the band is Carlos Miguel Hernandez. Versatile singer, born and raised in Havana, he was lead singer in bands conducted by living legends of Cuban music such as Argelia Fragoso, Anabel Lopez, Donato Poveda, Luis Carbonnel. For our second night the Festival lands in the U.S.A., on the banks of Mississippi. On Friday, the 10th of July, the Mp Delta Blues Orchestra is on, a 14 people band led by blues man Micki Piperno, and for this one night only they bring two special guests, two icons of American black music: singer Harold Bradley and saxophonist Eric "Saxman" Daniel. Harold Bradley, born in Chicago, is an amazing black music singer, from soul to gospel. This Versatile artist has a fascinating biography spent between America and Italy: he was a professional football player, a painter, a musician, a theater actor, a radio presenter, a TV presenter and he also worked in the field of cultural outreach (in the sixties in his studio in Trastevere he built the Folkstudio, the fabulous club where a lot of famous artists played when they were still unknown: Bob Dylan, Guccini and De Gregori, just to name a few). Eric Daniel, born in Washington, played with Jerry Lewis, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder and he also worked in Broadway in Bob Fosse's shows. On the 18th of July we have Mediterranean music with the Capone & BungtBangt project, the Neapolitan band that plays a formidable set of "ecological" instruments made with recycling materials: working tools, brooms with rubber bands, ice cream boxes, pieces of wooden floor, garbage cans, a costume that goes way back to the ancient tradition of bottari. BungtBangt are very popular also to TV audience since they are the protagonists of the "Tim Tribù" commercial and because they played the song "La paranza" together with Daniele Silvestri at the Sanremo Festival in 2007. On Saturday, the 25th of July, Alexian Santino Spinelli comes to Magliano: accordion virtuoso and true ambassador of Romanian culture. Accompanied by his historical band (guitar, double bass, percussions, singing and dancing), Alexian presents a colorful musical fresco of the Romanian musical styles: a wonderful journey that will introduce us to the variety and great charms of a millenarian culture.
Gypsy music, always linked to life's most important moments: nostalgia, passion, energy, sensuality, cheerfulness follow one another in a colorful Rom feast to sing and dance. On the 5th of August it is Spain's turn, with Esmeralda y Pasion Flamenca. Esmeralda Grao is one of Spain's best singer-songwriters, winner of the Benidorm Festival (the equivalent of our Sanremo Festival), she has already published 4 successful albums and has worked with the greatest Hispano-American artists both as a singer (from Mecano to Marta Sanchez to Enrique Iglesias) and as a composer (Pastora Soler, Malú, etc.). Esmeralda followed in her family footsteps and presented a "metissage" between traditional classics and her own original compositions which are the result of her "sangre flamenco". The visual part of the show is entrusted to the great dancer Lorena Marina Iglesias Juarros. And finally, on Saturday, the 8th of August, the clincher: "Voci e Percussioni in Bianco & Nero", Vocal Sisters (Afro-Maremma group led by Carla Baldini) meet KonKoBa (Senegalese musicians and dancers). KonKoBa bring back to life the art of griot who are African storytellers that, generation after generation, hand on the story of their country through a multiform art, made of singing, percussions and dances. The lead singer of the group is Pap Yery Samb, member of the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, singer and also djembe and sabar virtuoso. The group KonKoBa is made up of 4 musicians that dance, sing and play percussions and traditional African instruments.
Vocal Sisters are five singer-percussionists that have been singing the music of the peoples for over a decade, using fascinating resonant images to fuse their Mediterranean roots with the awesomeness of faraway lands and peoples, in particular Africa and Brazil. The encounter between these two groups translates into an extraordinary multi-ethnic feast, a journey between two ancient and genuine cultures that share the same feeling towards nature and life.
