March 10, 2008 National Day of Support of Abortion Providers http://www.refuseandresist.org/ab/index.html
On this day - Stand up with your abortion services providers and say: Thank you for your heroism, perserverance, courage, and commitment to women.
* Praise clinic staff and doctors with cards and letters of appreciation. Let them know they have your support and thanks. * Bring your local clinic staff flowers or a breakfast basket of fruit or muffins. * Organize local appreciation day events. * Organize with others to hold a March 10th dinner with area providers. * Step up to the front lines and be a volunteer clinic escort. * Ask your local provider how you can help. * Write your local newspaper, call talk shows to express support. * Take out ads in your newsletters and local newspapers. * Use your imagination, creativity and dedication to help create a climate at clinics where women, doctors and staff can hold their heads high without feeling shamed or fearing assault.
The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers was initiated in 1996 and co-sponsored by many national organizations and individuals, as a way to help stop the isolation and create a positive climate for abortion providers across the country. March 10th is the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. David Gunn, the first provider murdered by an anti-abortion extremist. It is a day to remember and honor Dr. Gunn and others who have and continue to put their lives on the line daily to make choice possible. Without abortion providers, there can be no "choice." And without choice women cannot be free to live and plan their lives!
In the shadow of the first federal ban on an abortion procedure and the criminalization of doctors who perform this service for women in need, and with the subsequent federal subpoenas of patient records, it is especially important right now to let providers know we stand with them.
wanted to make sure you all heard about this! - VOX @ USF Huge Photo Display Depicting Abortion as Genocide to Visit 4 Florida Universities Beginning Feb. 18
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 13 /Standard Newswire/ -- The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform will display the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) at 4 of the largest Florida Universities starting Feb. 18, 2008. This exhibit has caused controversy all over America since its inception a few years ago.
The Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) is a traveling photo-mural exhibit that visits university campuses around the country to show as many students as possible what abortion actually does to unborn children and makes them think about abortion in a broader historical context. GAP compares historical genocide to abortion using massive photo murals. The project attempts to create debate on university campuses to influence America's future decision makers and leaders.
The Winter 2008 GAP Tour will include:
Feb. 18-19 - Florida State University, Outside Oglesby Union Feb. 20-21 - University of Florida, Plaza of the Americas Feb. 25-26 - University of Central Florida, Free Speech Lawn near Library Feb. 27-28 - University of South Florida, Outside Cooper Hall and Library
Display times are from 10-4PM each day.
CBR Statement:
"Florida is a key battleground state politically. However, this is not about partisan politics. GAP educates students and faculty but it also helps pro-life candidates. CBR's Winter 2008 GAP tour will undoubtedly help Floridians make a more informed choice when they vote in general election in November." - Mark Harrington, Center for Bio Ethical Reform

Florida's proposed same-sex marriage ban threatens everyone's protections
When misguided religious and political groups attempt to deny gays legal rights under the guise of protecting marriage, you better watch out for your own rights.
That's what is happening in Florida, as supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage try to get the issue on the November 2008 ballot.
Here's what the proposed amendment says:
"Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."
Here's why -- behind the legalese -- the amendment is dangerous and immoral, and should be rejected by voters.
• It would write discrimination into the Florida Constitution, stripping gays of protections solely because of whom they choose to love or live with.
That's wrong, and makes it unconscionable that U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon, R-Indialantic, and state Rep. Ralph Poppell, R-Vero Beach, have endorsed the amendment, according to the Web site of Orlando-based Florida4Marriage.org. which is pushing the issue.
The amendment is also supported by Gov. Charlie Crist, the Florida Republican Party, Florida Baptist Convention, Florida Catholic Conference and fundamentalist Christian groups.
• It's unneeded, because same-sex marriage is already illegal in Florida, as it is in most states.
Supporters of the amendment say constitutional bans are necessary because anti-gay marriage laws can be reversed.
Or struck down by judges, as happened in one Iowa court in August.
But a Maryland court Tuesday upheld that state's law banning same-sex marriage.
That give and take shows that legislatures are exactly where the issue belongs.
And where it should continue to be debated as society strives to make America's gr
