Put two attractions together and let them go for 27 years - living life - aspiring to make music their lives - playing every nook and cranny for all the right reasons - and now, in 2007, looking to play the rooms where people come to dig and get involved in appropriate live music venues - anywhere - world.
Beth Bartley and Mark Clifford have been the musical duo Vox Violins for 25 years - this June. Their music has taken them across Canada several times in mostly folk venues, smaller festivals, folk societys, living room concerts, with many corporate and social functions to their credit.
Europe was their destination in 1998 to Dobrofest in Slovakia with Doug
Cox with whom they recorded their 2nd cd. Then Mark and Beth went on to Prague to perform and visit, then Holland for a few dates and finally over
to Ireland where they booked gigs as they traveled along.
In 2001 they arrived in Scotland to experience and play, returning home with invitations to return when they can.
In 2004 Vox Violins played for 3 weeks on the west coast of Ireland in the coastal pubs of County Kerry. They plan to make Ireland one of their destinations this summer as well.
In 2006, Vox Violins plan to play Dobrofest in Slovakia for the second time and other EU dates.
Vox Violins have played, as support players, for Allan Ginsberg and Terrance Cox. As a duo they have opened for John Cale, Fred Frith, The Cowboy Junkies, Susan Aglukart, Jan Arden, Valdy, James Keelaghan, the Band and others.
Their music is 25 years of their own choices, so it is all over the map. --celtic, gypsy, blues, swing, lyrical, space..."the final frontier", as much original music as you'd like - - and story songs........
Mark and Beth look at Vox Violins as a life project, the goal is to continue. They have both been playing music, for people, most of their lives, and have been able to keep true to what they believe to be the true spirit of the muse.
Vox Violins have strolled amongst wedding party guests, corporate clients, garden party birthday partiers, living room concert guests, and new vintage tasters and have been in many concert situations. They are very adaptable, with a wide variety of styles in their repertoire.
Their recorded music has been played on CBC radio and theyve been featured on many different radio and television shows over the past 25 years. Not to be missed!
