Since the release of their debut album in 2002, The Veronica Speedwell (Grand Rapids, MI) has been creating quite a buzz with their unique blend of edgy rock and intricate, melodic musicianship, citing a vast array of influences ranging from punk-based Barkmarket and The Jesus Lizard, to the dark and melodic Failure and The Cure. With members’ experiences ranging from studies in classical music to soundtrack work for TV shows, it’s easy to see how their debut album was voted BEST INDEPENDENT RELEASE of 2002 by both Music Revue and Recoil magazines, and hailed as a genuinely unique rock effort. The self-titled release was produced by former WILCO guitarist Jay Bennett (Bennett also performs on the album).
Their follow up album, due out this fall, is being co-produced by Matt Talbott (former HUM frontman) and Paul Malinowski (former SHINER bassist).
