ALL THE METAL ARTWORK IN THIS GALLERY WAS DESIGNED AND CREATED BY DAN STATLER. ALL PIECES WERE CUT BY HAND WITH A PLASMA TORCH; NO CNC MACHINE OR COMPUTER PROGRAM WAS USED FOR THIS PURPOSE. WATCH LEVIATHAN VIDEO ABOVE TO SEE DAN STATLER AT WORK.
This is Dan Statler's work as Production Designer and resident metal artist of Monster Garage:
MONSTER HOOD (8'X 8')
"When we moved to the new garage, I finally had a chance to do something about that lame ass sign we had. It was the only thing that said Monster Garage on it, so it was used on every show. Fortunately, we had just changed to the new more bitch’n logo that we have now, so I was able to fabricate a new one.
This is an oversized replica of a 1975 Cadillac hood made from two pieces of 4’X8’ 16 gauge sheet steel, with expanded metal and square tubing for the grille, and 2”x2” square tubing for dropping the sides. Then, because I ordered cold rolled instead of hot rolled steel, I had to grind the whole thing about a million times. The Monster Garage logo and flames were plasma cut and backlit."

ROCK'EM
"This was the season two finale where two teams would each build destructo cars, and then ram them together head on while simultaneously smashing away at each other with motorized devices until one or both of them were just a little pile of lifeless scrap metal. What do you do for this kind of show? Build giant robot heads? Well, as it turned out…
Each head is one sheet of 16 gauge 4’X8’ sheet steel wrapped around 1/2” X 1/2” square tubing to frame it out. I had to do a lot of hammering to get the sheet steel round enough to weld on to the frames. I tried to stay true to the Rock’em Sock’em Robot theme while only using cuts and bends to form the main structures of the heads. Plasma cut some flames, add some sheet metal head bolts, sweat, blood, and burns, and badda bing: robot."
