"Now she has fun, in this summer of fun, soaring down the freeway, hot blood-red vinyl against her bare thighs, smoking and singing along to 'Rincon' on the radio, squeezing every last thrill she can out of this summer of profane thrills and impending wrath.
For now they have entered their sun-drenched days of Methedrine and roses, their cobalt-blue nights of speed and romance."

I hear music and see men of the past and future. I see wise men and poets and scholars and artists harmoniously building the hundred-gated cathedral of Mind. - Herman Hesse, Hours in the Garden (1936)
DJ SHORT SHORTS was born at a very early age to poor sharecroppers on a record plantation. Too broke to afford new pants she liberated the rags into the now trademark short shorts. Fleeing a charge on 45 rpm possession, Short Shorts crash landed in Los Angeles and has been playing records ever since. As an all vinyl DJ, Short Shorts feels that "Music is intrinsically meant to be played and enjoyed even if you wear out your 1st edition Misfits pressing. It is an obligation to share amazing music and emerging artists in a public forum. I mean, what's the point of having all these great records if you never play them for anyone? A record that's never been danced to or made someone cry is like a broad that's never driven anyone to drink. "
Tune in to the SHORT SHORTS SESSIONS 6-8 PM every Thursday on littleradio.com:

starting@ 8PM: DIVINEBRICK RESEARCH SOUND PROJECT LIBYTHTH BOW+ARROW ANIMENTAL (nyc) NAOMI ELIZABETH
TUESDAY march 31st @8PM sharp 129 e. 3rd st downtown LA $5 all ages a premiere mix of sounds and Projections! WHALESOUND (1st show in LA) BAND OF OUTSIDERS BOW+ARROW YUKOxCHINO(of murmur/Sasqrotch) KILLKILLKILL and DJ MY ACID TRIP WITH GILBERT GODFREY
they are soo much better (live) now than then, like some of the other LA/OC 77-82 bands ditto. J-Doe is way looser, like an old punk chuck berry. the band was unwatchable back in like 1980 because they were sooo uptight onstage, like they were playing for their rent -- oh wait, they were. and i guess Xene even sings not quite as amazingly-out-of-tune scare-the-dead-animals. ha, and at 2:27 john is even goofing on old Lee Ving-type stage patter. JD was one of the few (bandleaders) (except TSOL and FEAR which were too huge to take strongarming from anybody, and actually put us on their huge gigs in like 1982-83) who said to gregg turner out at some club somewhere -- "y'know, we can't even be seen talking to you guys -- the rodney thing and all -- but your band is cool. just so you know." don't even ask what megadicks black flag and the DKs were (re 1981 LA KROQ rodney's-reign-of-terror intra-band politics)
crossing MY sun/mars natal whatever, that is. fucking interns. my own chart isn't even anywhere on this page/folders. i have at least 5 fucking imaginary unpaid 'terns, and still nothing ever gets done. "WHAT PART OF 'READ MY MIND' DO YOU FUCKTARDS HAVE A PROBLEM UNDERSTANDING??" more great imaginary Madonna quotes. i skimmed the tell-the-dirt (mildly, so he wouldn't get himself killed by thugs) bio by her brother. wow, lifetime goal achieved. world's no. 1 beyotch, and a MONEY CHISELER to boot. oh man now i'm a bigger "britney fan" than ever. she may be as big a c*nt as anyone in private (going by all tabloid stories of the last 8 years) but at least she doesn't pretend to be anything but stone cold crazy (massive drug use can do that, wow big surprise there).
someday i'll wkae up and all the words typed will come out like jg;lagklreaerkjatkljagt and i'll know fucking treitwad has taken over my brain. but in keeping with Random Chaos Theory principle, at no time do no fewer than FOUR other people have the passwords/log-on to this page. fuck i think i even gave it to Nicky/Lucy Hell just to fuck with her. (since there's like zero salacious content anywhere, which is what she would want to catalog and use as ammunition for future taunting contests) (hell i dont even think year 2007 GF paige posted X'rated messages or comments, she just did it in live time/phone like the older generation is wont to do).
did you know there was one really good X song with a really good kinda-1976-Ted-Nugent riff. of course you did. i just felt like hearing it now. kids have IPods, i have YOutube! every song in history only a "search" code away!
yea hella yeah. 10+ entire years and counting (irrevocably, if im using that word rightt) into semi-retirement, the sleeping skills and preferences have certainly been observed 1st hand.
very favorite (and most efficient, per the massive REM-time noted) blocks are probably 2am-11am or 3am-11am/12noon. yes we can go 9hrs w/o stirring but once, as in "huhh, let's see how much longer and what sort of dreams are still in the cue" around the 6th or 7th hour.
when we imitate the 10-month old kitten/cat's schedule (after sundown it has free reign/roaming of the entire block, both sides of the street; daytimes, many half-stray-cats slack out all day in the farrr back driveway (to my own driveway's right/westward) that goes past this house's garage, ie on the other side of the back fence
http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Claudia_Schiffer not pertinent to the song, but the 2nd/3rd paragraphs of the background section are....eh, "funny" isn't the right word but they're hella something. oh wait, yess pertinent -- Essen/Koln/Dusseldorf is a MEGA crazy big "punk rock" market (for old LA bands for sure).
i did scribble down a checklist (of the radio airchecks) before i hustled the small bag/box into the PO (along with something else that semmed important at the time, or the radio-crap pile wouldn't've had a piggyback ride happening, just me screwing around the house and getting some downtown walking/errands in before the 40 days of rain recommenced)
i will do the obvious anal-retentive thing and sort them (on paper) in order good/bad/worse with any brief commetns or warnings needed. man and do you know what. the WPRK/Orlando 91.5 (college radio like all the rest) cassette had been sitting in the bathroom (where there's a big boombox) since april 2005 when it came back to hayward. huh! i had briefly and inattentively audited it (or just part of it) and it was let to sit there, probalby as "needs further scrutiny before it goes into the front side-room cassette rack with its siblings"). well, huh. and it's not like i didn't have 1,000 things more important to do since then. like (last fall for instance) RE-WATCH entire 2nd halves (or more) of important good-to-great SEC conference games i had on tape (to watch later than a saturday afternoon 1pm or 4pm kickoff in the first place). uh, a good handful of times. well that's what happens where there's chores you can't trust the interns with (they spill crap beer like Millers into everything; good thing i have a puke-brown medium-weave carpet in this rent-control mannnsion/900+ sq ft (plus small front/back yards, plus full size 2-car garage that is never ever used for dumb old cars) since 1996.
oh i didn't answer the "sleep lab control group" question, huh
soo yea if i imitate Danger Kitty's sleep schedule of 8am - 4pm (or more like 5am/6pm-till-sundown, minus stirring once/twice to go poke at his Kitten Chow dish's food in the kitchen) while he sleeps right up my hipbone (on top of the comforter/blanket), it's like ehhhhhhhhh that really fucks with the REM-quality time. 7am-3pm, a little less so. 6am-2pm i can blow that out like a motherfucker! 5am/11, 4am/10, progressively better (on the REM quality). but 2am or 3am crash-times, yeah those are the wheelhouse. (and vice versa, my most productive hours by far in any day -- as in, brain is awake and functioning/malfunctioning/in action -- 10pm-2pm/3pm ALWAYS.
well right there you see why "early semi-retirement" (sort of the 2nd rate american dream, the 1st rate being "soo much money you can tell the whole world to go fuck itself) was always an important career goal (accounting/finance, in the hell that the health care industry became, i.e. large acute care hospitals. or my 14 years on "Pill Hill" aka Providence Hospital becoming post-merger Summit Med Center in 1992, for suuure. 1st circle of hell? what 1st circle? sir, we passed that level going downwards YEARS ago!
so yea we got massive sleeping skills. including entire long stretches (into double figures easy) during 6-month periods when the LA/Lomita crash-facility-household was 86'd (to everyone not in the immediate family) during insane 2-sided textbook "child custody battle" wars.
curious finding (from that year 2006 stretch): back seats of many compacts (if you're 5 foot 6) sleep better than the too-hard motel beds of many name-chain motels! ha!
there's a handful of good stories/anecdotes about the STP Not LSD song. short ones, not drinking-story type stories requiring indexes for the plotlines. i can think of uh uh uh, 1 2 3 4, right off. yeah, beats the fuck out of me. "High On Drugs" (from the same period of time 1986-88) was the only possible "college radio hit" ever on the table (or set list) annd right, it got bludgeoned onstage for almost one year in 1986, and i just dropkicked it rather than have to be a dick and myself play (per recording)the (drums/drum part) (like on the later 1990 recording from a "metal mike" session up here, ie just me and future samoans julia and jonathan, doing the song properly) and yell the guitar part(s)/players into compliance. and that's the ONLY story about that song, ever. wtf y'know? oh well i'm sure Redd Kross might say the same about whatever didn't get as far as "Bubblegum Factory" into their own pipeline (of the same time, post- Neurotica).
yeah definitely 4 (or more) for sure. only one requires having a geetar in my hand (which is what i'm supposed to go looking for the minute i get to Budget/LAX around 12 noon on friday, i should remind myself, instead of reflexively driving up/out to another gigsite on autopilot) (i scheduled the ETA early enough to go look for that crap 66 Melody Maker down in its home away from home, OH, and give the carless Long Beach component of friday's merch-chaos help a ride up/back from long beach).
ha i actually passed the pre-SAT here (which is not always the case nor automatic). i remembered the buzzword "radio" so checked this top page for a link and then checked there for a mailing address. ehhhh around 25 minutes before the PO door closes. but the main PO line (at 1pm saturdays when technically they can lock up the inside "door" to the counter area) is always soooo long that there's 6 to 10 people into the lobby (forming the end of the line). so i might have hustled in there at 1:02 but it was cool. your small box marked "entrys for the WORLDS WORST DJ contest, xx Technique Division" is out to S. Main. huhhh that's the street where peter (huer) (co owner Triple X) still goes in to "work" whatever's left of the indie-label indsutry to work (since the first or second D.I. album decades ago in their case), up at 2020 N. Main.
pop quiz apr 1st, huuge Pluto transit crossing the Sun/Mars natal opposition (which in a T-square is one monstrous little dual/sided operation, taking turns being opposite in behavior) for like forever. Pluto hasn't been in a "earth sign" since ha, wait -- yep, Oct 1971. ha, that's the Black Sabbath MASTER OF REALITY tour month w/the old rolling stone photo that's on our t-shirt screen, ha
boooo the DSL was crashing every couple hours on the work PCs all day, and it snarked (swallowed) a message here i finally had up (during lunch food time, clocked out)
let me try and remember the most pertinent points of the forced brainstorm
<< which was necessary in order to set in motion any kind of causality (?) uh uh, oh just to jumpstart the damn Edsel and skip past the "mikey has a mental block an cant do playlists anymore because he stupid from arkamsasas mommmmmmmmmm" glitch and maybe set some possibility into motion that would satisfy your lab-research staff >
(1b) (since) there is definitley a "large block of time," -- from whenver i rejoin the living (mid day or early sun aft Mar 2nd, through the rest of that entire day/evening/whatever)(after getting baack way late sat night from the San Marcos gig, to the perennial garage-couch crashing space (with set of full house keys since way back when) at the year 2004 ex-GF twice-divorced single-mom-of-2's house in Lomita (near Long Beach) annd yeah i have free rental car/gas as usual per band-weekends down there). not saying i have the slightest of ideas or suggestions, but (back to 1-A)
IF YOU POST A MAILING ADDRESS BY NOONTIME saturday (that can take a small box or medium size jiffy bag, ideally) yeahh i can set dupes running of those 5 or 6 or 7 air-check D60s/D90s while i recommence hours of endless packing (merch) in the same room (and not allowed to leave the house until it's done, save for any short errands. haha like mailing off D60s).
which would pass on the examples of "what's been done" (on the 2-manor 3-man guest DJ spots of 30 or 60 min) annd no big urge to repeat the configurations. uhhh the orig message was way cooler.
but if you can beg borrow or swipe a function mailbox addr, i can guarantee Step 3, skippiung mikey's bullshit snafus regards Steps 1, 2, 1.5, 1.75, whaatever. although i have nooo bright ideas at the moment. (as in, what grabs my attention).
making the logical assumption that rounding up a) a live on air "MC" (whether real time, or dubbed in) and b) 2 or 3 or 4 "seroius" competi heat dancers, wannabe or real-be's (i fall exactly inbetween, which is sort of where white boys belong) uhhh... that is a bunch of parts when you then throw in (c) the requisite panel of THREE judges with scorecard sets (just like the old MTVSWK) . or competitors on the honor system grading eachother w/.the help of their competition itself.
that and the GaGa album are about the only musical things holding my attention at the present nanosecond (we can do the 35 song samoans set in our sleep, and smoke it. as in play it,not hesher-it. they didnt even HAVE druggs, of any sort, when i was in HS in wonderful fun filled little rock, so i was permanently deprived then and forever of any "drugg expereience." oh, and not having the temperament anyway. (probably way too anal; i'm the textbook sober-as-a-motherfucker driver or backseat driver or both, anytime 12mid-5am. im kinda sketchy between 5am on out if still awake, re freeway skills, ohh well).
anyway i have a shitload of new D60 and D90, just cough up the addr for the handful
(all the goofy radio guiest slots/spots, for you to spot check and figure what the hell can this 2-trick pony do or get focused on that's not old news therefore not 1/2 as interesting as the recent britney album. or even the 1st Taylor Swift album which i STILL haven't played all of yet....huh. hey when youre semi-retired 10 whole years ago and counting, with no reponsibiliities except maybe 2 days of work a week, oh and REMEMBERING TO FEED THE 10 MONTH OLD KITTEN, hell , it's like every 3rd grader's dream vision of anarchy. no rules!/i mkae the rules/rule no. 1 = there are no rules!/ and i'll sleep whenvvver we feel like it, 8 or 9 hours, alarm clock OFF. it's the 2nd rate american dream! (the top line version of which is to have SOO much money you tell the entire world to fuck off forever) (oh wait, that's the day the second estate -- family, not my personal own one -- drops through the "sole executor" trapdoor. mom b.1922 has pretty much given notice (that if she lives to be 90, shoot her now so she won't curse any aches and pains minute by minute -- libras, vain much you think?) soo yeah it's a tough life. working 2 days a week and no one telling you when to crash out the other 5.
i'll try to post-it a checklist of which radio shows are the best, to worst, like a prep sports team ranking. SJS san jose state definitley sucks as the worst one, and maybe a 2 or 3 eay tie for first. although the Clash Brothers (me/bob fagan, late 80's) live on KUSF just being smartasses (and playig 3 songs on air) was pretty claasic. yep we sang a song where i did my halfassed Ira Louvin kinda lead vocal voice. hey im from arkansas, i got the vocal sound if not the skills. ohhh and it was a crib of an old 50's title anyway, "Doreen." yeahhh i think that was a Louvins song title at that. nahhh fuck the Clash Brothers. what did they ever do to top COMBAT ROCK? nada! nothing! zero! zipwad!
youll like the two KUSF tapes because they're nutty hyper 60's 45s-only, all genres but sort of focused on non-hit garage 45s by NAME acts. i belive, yes. pink swirl Amy/Mala label IT'S MY PRIDE (by the guess whoosiz, late 1966), my copy (from a thrift store in arkansas, spring 1977), i rule this shit! oh oh ohoh but there are no rules BUSTED.
you can reach me/contact (me) in the penalty box, ok.
