Wabo-Chaoは宮下敬一、田畑満、藤掛正隆の三人で構成された、インスタント・コンポージングによるロック・グループである。
インスタント・コンポージングとは、エリック・ドルフィーとの共演で知られるウクライナ出身の即興音楽家、ミシャ・メンゲルベルグによって提唱されたメソッドであるが、Wabo-Chaoは「瞬間作曲」という言葉本来の意味を、ロック・トリオのフォーマットにおいて具現化する活動を行っている。
インスタント・コンポージングでは、瞬間作曲という表現方法のもと、ハード・ロック、サイケデリック・ロック、クラウト・ロック、オルタナティヴ・ロック、ダブ・ミュージック、テクノ、ソウル＆ファンク、ヒップ・ホップ、ジャズ、ポップス、クラシック、現代音楽、電子音楽、民族音楽など、メンバーがリスナーとして過去に聴いてきた様々な音楽の要素が、自発的に統合される。
ある意味、ノンジャンルかつミクスチャーな音楽と言えよう。

何やら難しげな事が書いてあるが、要はその場で感じるままに繰り広げられるグルーヴィーな演奏を、聞き手側も自由気ままに受け取って頂ければいい。
踊りまくるも良し。
瞑想するも良し。
