If one were attempting to design a prototype for the quintessential contemporary musician, trumpeter/fluegelhornist/bassist/composer Wade Baker would be an ideal model. A certified member of the hip-hop generation, Wade's early aspirations in the world of hip-hop & rock music took precedence over the trumpet that he began playing in the sixth grade. When he reached twenty, his dedication to the art of jazz took shape.
Rather than abandoning the music he loved, he simply applied its energy, spirit and fiercely proud intellectual rage to the jazz idiom, creating a synthesis that is truly contemporary.
After spending 4 years at the University of Indianapolis on a music & academic scholarship, Baker moved to Cincinnati,OH to work on his Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from the prestigious University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. While in Cincinnati Baker kept himself busy by starting his own jazz quintet and hosting a jam session at the famed Greenwich Tavern for over an entire year. He would also freelance and work odd jobs until afforded the opportunity to lead his group at the more popular venues in town such as the Blue Wisp, the Redmoor etc....
With a singular style that incorporates the influences of masters like Roy Hargrove, Russell Gunn, and Nicholas Payton, Baker has continued to gain recognition for his own music through touring throughout the Midwest and constantly performing in the Cincinnati metro area.
