Wager first formed in late 2001 when Alan Bell and Wayne Hughes met after playing in a covers band called Chapter VI. Alan and Wayne started writing and recording original material together to pass onto various record companies. After recording a few demo tracks Wayne met soul legend Edwin Starr whilst taking a break from his place of work in Tamworth, Staffs
Edwin was impressed enough with the initial material to get involved with the production of a 2 track demo and the subsequent forming of a new band to perform on the tracks. Thus Wager was born........
Not long after Recording the 2 track demo Edwin took the demo to America to a few Record companies and Radio Stations. The demo received airplay in Phoenix, Arizona and various other states that Edwin visited. After getting positive feedback from a couple of Record Companies Edwin stressed the need for more material to be written and recorded.
Over the following months Wager returned to Touchwood Studio's and Wrote an 8 track album called "Closing In On The World". It was now time for Wager to meet the public. With the album near completion a few small gigs were arranged and Wager took to the stage and performed valiantly. The gigs were a success and Wager were invited to be interviewed by Chris Mills for Centre Fm in Tamworth.
April 2nd 2003, following a heart attack, Edwin passed away at his Nottingham home and not long after Wager split due to musical differences. Meanwhile Alan and Wayne auditioned various musicians and continued to write and record.
2009 sees WageR with their strongest line up to date.
WageR have been hard at work playing some excellent gigs throughout the Midlands and beyond, including venues like The Shed, JB's, The Kingswood Tavern and many more excellent venues.
Wager have continued to tour extensively throughout the UK, and are currently considering offers from Europe and Scandinavia. As the media noise around WageR gets louder, more & more people are asking when WageR will become mainstream artists. With the imminent release of the new single it is simply only a matter of time before WageR becomes a part of everyone's life.
