Hi every1, I'm Wagner Rodrigo Arratia Concha aka Kiko, born and bred in Brazil, but with Chilean background. I'm a journalist working for Psyte, Brazil's leading psychedelic website. I've been writing reviews and news articles about international releases and artists. If you're an artist or record label manager from the progressive and psychedelic world out there, please drop me a line at wagner@psyte.com.br. Would love to hear from you.
Back to my introduction, I lived almost three years in London, a place that taught me a lot about electronic music and clubbing culture. Having met amazing people such as Maria Teixeira aka Never Enough Maria, Will Paterson (Frantic) and Enrico Sorbello (Antiworld), to name just a few, I'm eternally grateful to them and respect their work, as well as all DJs, promoters and punters I've come across during the two-and-half years I spent in the UK. They all, in no particular order, trusted in my work as a photographer and allowed me to discover a whole new world, giving me full access to the venues and gigs. As a resulted, I produced a portfolio at spaces.msn.com/wagnerconcha - you can see on the slideshow below some of my best snaps.
The intense experience abroad gave me an understanding about the electronic music culture as well as knowledge regarding the press in this industry, which is the part that interests me most. Now, back to my country, I'm committed to pursue a career as a clubbing journalist and therefore contribute to the popularisation of electronic music. Although we don't have a Brazilian solid press specialized in this area yet, I'm sure this business will improve at large scale in the near future, as Brazil has been gradually conquering its space within clubbing industry, hosting music festivals such as Skol Beats, Creamfields and Universo Paralello.
Journalism-wise, I've done free-lance stuff for Brazilian and English websites, writing features about various subjects: interview with Gilberto Silva, Arsenal and Brazil's midfielder; interview with Infected Mushroom for Trance.com.br (in Portuguese); interviews with psytrance DJ and producer Pixel, techno don DJ Murphy, NRGFlow's Mike Redina, Brazilian whizz-kid Vitor Lima, minimal duo Ung & Bastos, trance DJ Fabio Stein, DJs Anderson Noise and Renato Lopes, all for HarderFaster.net. In November 2006 I went to Rio de Janeiro to cover Creamfields for I-DJ Mag - the review was published on the February 2007 issue (see below).
Well, I think that's all. Peace and keep the vibe alive! ;-)
