HISTORY BEHIND WAHALLA
"Wahalla" is an African word meaning "chaos"! Our music is a chaotic blend of the best in deep and tech house. Traditionally a London based night set up in 2004 Wahalla continues to host crazy colourful parties in some of London's finest venues including The Key, Fluid, AKA, Charterhouse Bar, Trafik, Neighbourhood and The Jamm in Brixton. Wahalla has recently added the neighbourly city of Oxford to it's repertoire and is converting the masses with their unique deep tech house beats! Simply put "we're just a group of DJ's who want to play our records to a crowd that appreciates them" and Oxford is set to be the next big venture so beware! "a Clerkenwell dream come true" Time Out Magazine (2004).
SI YEATS
Si Yeats is a modest DJ who has been perfecting the art of DJing since the age of thirteen. Through his stubborn taste in music Si has developed a singular style. By pushing the music he loves to play he has not only raised his own profile and gained recognition for his night, Wahalla, but he has skilfully exposed quality deep tech house music to the generations to come.
Si first got a taste for underground house and techno after stumbling across Mr C's Future Music radio show on Kiss 100. It wasn't long before he found himself travelling to London once a month to hear the music that he loved at the legendary 'Subterrain' parties at The End. It was these late nights that inspired Si to develop his own mix of all things deep and techy. His technical abilities were soon noticed when in 2006 Si was awarded runner up in International DJ Magazine's 'Raw Talent' competition.
Through his first residency with London club night 'Playground' Si was given the opportunity to play at some of the capital's best venues such as The Egg, 333 and The Key. Now in charge of his own club night, Wahalla, he has proudly hosted parties in prestigious venues from London to Oxford ranging from AKA, Neighbourhood, The Jam and recently Oxford's most intimate venue, The Cellar. Following the success of his parties Si was thrilled to be appoached by Nathan Coles and Terry Francis to host a Wahalla room at one of their infamous Wiggle parties. It is through Wahalla that Si has been fortunate enough to play alongside some of the world's most respected DJs and producers including Mr C, Eddie Richards, Nathan Coles, Inland Knights, Asad Rizvi, Shur-I-Kan, Harold Heath and Pete Dafeet.
Wahalla is only now in it's fourth year and shows no signs of slowing down. "Wahalla enables me to share my love of music with all the people I respect: friends, DJs and those that care to listen!" The simple fact is that Si can't get enough of DJing, a true supporter of vinyl and is happiest when behind a set of turntables. "I like to flirt between bass driven tech house and warm melodic deep house taking the mood up and down while keeping the crowd guessing."
J_HAZZRD
Jorge Hazzrd has been on the wheels for over 10 years. His style is a variety of house, mainly deep, West Coast, and tech to electro house. You will know when he is on as his sound is all about the thumping bass lines, tightly wrapped up in awesome jazzy infusions. Jorge..s sound is quite hard to explain but not hard to understand if you are ever lucky enough to hear him.
Not even legally old enough to drink or enter clubs, Jorge had his first residency at only 16 years old in South Africa, his homeland. With the cosmopolitan experience he gained and his move to London 5yrs ago, Jorge had the drive to expand as a DJ. Make no mistake his technical skills are recognisable as above the norm, as is his taste in music. In London, Jorge has played out at many underground and independent parties, again allowing him to expand and experience the London crowds. Since joining the Wahalla crew, Jorge has had the chance to play out at some more great venues along with established DJs and producers such as Jonny Rock (Music for Freaks) and Asad Rizvi (Reverberations/Wrong). Recently, Jorge spent some time back home playing in some of Cape Town's finest clubs. As a DJ, Jorge's main objective is obviously getting people dancing. He does this by offering them soul food: music that makes everything seem wonderful, sounds that are compelling and enigmatic. He is an exceptionally skilled DJ that wants to give something back to the crowd and deliver a sense of individuality; you won't find this music on any CD in the stores!
If there is anything else you would like to know about Wahalla then please get in touch.
Keep dancing :)
