Hi everyone. This is our latest film about waterboarding for Amnesty - the CIA interrogation technique that Bush has said is OK. Please watch it and if you feel this is wrong, go to www.unsubscribe-me.org and join a community of people who are taking action to put a stop to this torture practice.
As part of their new "Unsubscribe" campaign, Amnesty International commissioned DarkFibre for make a series of three films that show, powerfully, the reality of enhanced interrogation techniques. These techniques are used by the CIA and are endorsed by the US government. Waiting For The Guards is the first of the three films to be released on-line and in cinemas.
Waiting For The Guards shows the effects of Stress Positions of the body. The filmmakers filmed someone being in Stress Positions for 6 hours. The effect on the body is traumatic. The pain is excruciating. The experience unbearable.
Also in the film is the interrogator. He is in a separate space. The idea is he's just "rendered" the prisoner to a black site somewhere outside of US jurisdiction. Probably bringing the prisoner in on a Lear Jet. The CIA interrogator now has to wait for the Stress Positions to have an effect. So he sits around, waiting. Getting bored. Calling his daughter on the phone. There is a dispassionate distance between the interrogator and the prisoner. All the more chilling.
Until they meet.
It is plain to see that these techniques are torture.
The films form the back bone of UNSUBSCRIBE, a campaign Darkfibre devised with seminal ad agency Drugstore for Amnesty International UK. This is a campaign to form a movement of people who do not believe we should be abusing the human rights of others in the so called War On Terror.
"Forced on to the balls of his feet, bent double with his hands handcuffed behind his back, the near-naked man shook violently... It seemed obscene to stare at this apparently frail, vulnerable man... Yet this was not torture. It was art." Terri Judd, The Independent.

The radical approach of the filmmakers, Marc Hawker and Ishbel Whitaker, was not to make a fictional film. Instead they approached a UK performance artist to undergo the agony of Stress Positions, for real, over a six hour period. The resulting film accurately shows the extreme pain and anguish that this technique creates. To build the drama within the film, the film makers introduced the part of the interrogator. While the detainee undergoes the prolonged pain of Stress Positions, the interrogator becomes bored. Fed up. Waiting. He calls his daughter back home. It is all the more chilling as we relentlessly listen to the pain of the detainee, to hear the banal normality of the interrogator.
Who I'd like to meet:
Marc Hawker is an award winning director and producer. He produced David LaChapelle's RIZE. During the Yugoslavian civil war he was a DJ on the anti war pirate radio station, B92 in Serbia. His film about B92 was called "A Multi Media Epic Street Poem" by Time Out.
Ishbel Whitaker started her career in theatre as an actor in the ensemble company of a leading Polish experimental director. This was the start of a long journey into archetype and myth. She has worked in computer games and advertising as a creative director, developing a future city with the acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid, and creating a T-Girl pop band for the global ad agency BBH. She was an Executive Producer on David Lachapelle's Rize which was Oscar short listed. Living Goddess is her first project as a director, and was the result of a 15 year obsession. The film was made with her long term collaborator Marc Hawker.

Archive.
In 1996, Archive brought you the blissed-out classic, Londinium. In 1999, they delivered Take My Head, a collection of symphonic torch songs for the New Millennium. In 2002 the band were again treading pastures new. The result was You All Look The Same To Me, a self-produced hard-hitting, heart-raw opus. In 2003 they recorded a soundtrack and score for Luc Bessons Michel Vaillant film, and the anthemic sound of the 4th album Noise quickly followed.
Signed to Warner Music France, throughout Europe, Archive are going from strength to strength and are enjoying huge exposure through touring. Their live shows are a spectacle to behold; the energy the band exude is awe inspiring and there is no doubt that this band should be seen live.
DarkFibre continue to make groundbreaking and radical films that have gained critical aclaim and awards.
RIZE By David LaChapelle. David LaChapell's Rize tells the story of the Hip Hop clowns and Krumpers in Compton LA, who are using dance and creativity to overcome the tyranny of gang culture and violence that is destroying their lives. It is a positive, joyful call to the power of dance - and how it can give hope and meaning to the lives of kids who have been given nothing. Rize was co-produced by DarkFibre London and HSI LA and was Oscar shortlisted.
Living Goddess follows the secret lives of 3 girls who are worshipped as gods in Nepal. Filmed over 2 years the film shows how the sacred lives of the child goddessess colides with the violent people's revolution of 2006.
Broadcast on Channel Four and funded by Levi's, Ash: Love and Destruction sought to redefine rock documentaries. The filmmakers "kidnapped" the band for 5 days, pretending to be obsessive fans. Time Out Pick Of the Day.
Zombietown was filmed during the Yugoslavian civil war in Serbia. The film followed the underground pirate radio station B92 as it used humour and music to wage its own battle against xenophobia. Time Out called the film "A Multi Media Epic Street Poem".
I just wanted to share this press release with you in the hope that it will inspire you as much as it inspires me. To me Guy’s story proves that if we put our mind to it, we can achieve anything. Wishing you a beautiful day. Best wishes Anne.
Back On His Feet Despite All The Odds
In 2003 Guy Harris was involved in a road traffic accident where he suffered an L1 complete spinal cord injury, leaving him paralysed from the waist down. Doctors told him categorically that he would “never walk again.”
Within 5 months Guy was feeling sensations and kicking his legs. Within 10 months he was training to stand. Within 1 year he was learning to take steps on a frame. And today he is training to walk on crutches. All achieved naturally by utilising the power of his mind….
