Richmond-based Wake of the Flood is an acoustic Grateful Dead tribute band that formed in the spring of 2009. The formula is simple: four-part vocal harmonies blend with three acoustic guitars, each playing in different registers to create a full and powerful acoustic sound. This combined with “out on a limb” improvisation allows them to touch on Dead material that isn’t typically performed on acoustic instruments.
Since it's inception the quartet has been steadily on the rise. Their repertoire grows by the week, and they have been performing in venues including the Capital Ale House Music Hall, Poe’s Pub, Emilio’s Downtown, and Grandpa Eddie’s. They also opened the 2009 Virginia Beer Festival and have shared billings with local favorites 11th House, Sean Hoppe of King Solomon’s Marbles, Barrelhouse Blues Band, Slack Family Bluegrass, and The Jangling Reinhardts.
More and more, Wake of the Flood is proving to be a tribute like no other.
