Relentless and uncompromising yet soaring and intricate, Waking Theo weld the brutal to the beautiful to create music that is both stunning and epic, in the truest senses of the words. Drawing influence from a mighty cross-section of metal, from pummelling, classic thrash, through to modern-day melodic death metal, Waking Theo carve out a sound that is both evocative yet ground breaking, displaying the perfect balance between extremity and accessibility.
In a metal scene currently dominated by trends and fashions, Waking Theo stick resolutely to their guns, creating heavy metal in the classic sense; heavy, melodic and powerful. Today, when conformity seems to be the norm, Waking Theo stands out with a thrillingly unique sound all of its own and a desire to create what seems to be lacking in modern British metal, truly memorable songs.
Formed in mid-2004 in Yorkshire through a chance meeting of like-minded musicians, Waking Theo took their first steps onto the local scene with a gig at Leeds’ famed Joseph’s Well in December of that year. Now, two and half years and well over 100 gigs later, Waking Theo have honed their live performance with devastating effect. This has lead to their selection for support slots with big names such as Mendeed, Biomechanical, Camorra, Co-Exist, Anemic, Losing Sun and Everette, and many others, as well as an offer to act as local support to Napalm Death in July 2007.
Waking Theo entered the studio to record a four-track demo in August 2006 with Scott “Axegrinder” Atkins (ex-Stampin’ Ground). The tracks resulted in a signing with Hangman’s Joke Recordings in February 2007. The band once more retreated to Grindstone studios in April 2007 to record another two tracks and remaster the original four to form their debut mini-album, “Six Reflections On The Present”. Unfortunately, just as the record was in preparation for release, Hangman’s Joke went into sudden liquidation due to unforeseen circumstances.
The band is now left with a fully releasable six-track mini-album, which they feel perfectly captures the essence of Waking Theo. However, the band is now left with no current means of distribution and is seeking supportive label/management.
Where Waking Theo will go from here is anybody’s guess. However, with a record this strong, a live show this explosive and youth on their side (three members are still in their teens, with the remaining two only just in their early 20’s), it’s a safe bet that the direction will be skyward.
The metal world needs Waking Theo; they must be experienced to be believed.
