K. Fay's Interests
|
| General | MUSIC. i breathe it instead of oxygen.
I am a singer/songwriter just like everyone else... I have played the guitar [mainly self-taught], tinkered with other various instruments, and have been writing songs since I was 14. I have a million and one influences, everything from the cure to mozart, and a *VERY* open mind toward music.
my first artistic passion was the written word... I'm always working on 10 novels at once, which i'll poke at once in a blue moon, and will probably never finish. occasionally, i'll write a poem here and there, but for the most part whenever i start to write something i'll hear music in my head, and it automatically turns into a song.
I also like to dabble in digital photography and graphic art. i love to play with pictures, and create my own.
I am VERY visually inclined... it's the language of my brain. i think in pictures, not words. I think the reason why I love music so much is because of the pictures it paints in my head.
i'm a huge fan of the sky. the stars, the moon, clouds, the universe in general. i can draw a map in the sky with the names of all the constellations, which frightens most people. that's my simple happiness, just staring at the sky, especially at night... time, space, god, how and why we're here... it's a lot to ponder over, so i'm glad i have an outlet in my music, or i wouldn't be able to function...
My philosophy is that self-expression and art are vital to existence. Life is definitely open to interpretation, so don't be afraid to share what your spin on it is. when we share our experiences and what we've learned with each other, we all become wiser and better people. What I enjoy conversating about most are Philosophy, Psychology, Astrology, Theology... people and how they work.
so that was a lot of typing about myself. hopefully you found me interesting and humorous, as well as physically attractive :D. who knows, maybe you'll learn something... and maybe you could teach me a thing or two.
*~SeX. DrUgS. RoCk N' RoLL.~* | | Music | well... everything, almost... i've heard it all. i'm a walking music encyclopedia :). my favorite artist for one reason or another is tori amos. she just communicates with me on another level.
i like a lot of some popular stuff that everyone likes, even though i very rarely listen to the radio, like death cab and the postal service, the cure, siouxie and the banshees, joy division, deftones, tegan and sara, incubus, garbage, ani difranco, interpol, pinback, the smiths, the shins, depeche mode, portishead, tool and a perfect circle... maynerd is just the man, isn't he? a lot of times i'll be listening to an artist, for years even, and then one day i'll hear them on the radio :D. it's a lot of hard work to become a successful musician, and it's awesome if anyone can do what they love and/or create art for a living, so i don't really call that selling out... BUT, everyone trying to use music to be cool needs to just stop. appreciate music for the art that it is, and how it affects you personally, not how cool you think it makes you look.
i was raised with good ol' rock n' roll like the beatles, led zeppelin, jimi hendrix, the doors, pink floyd, ELO, eric clapton, fleetwood mac, bread, kansas, journey and america. my parents are both musicians too, it's always been a huge part of my life... i would have to say that the most influential time period for me musically was the early 90's- depeche mode, the cure, nirvana, tori, deftones, tool, bjork... sometimes i just want to chill and listen to some billie holiday or even some classical like bach or chopin [sho-pan]. my favorite instrument has always been the piano, but i never got to learn :(. i also love the whole late 70's through the 80's- '77 punk, early new wave, post-punk, and the underground electronic dance scene. the rest of the music i like is all very independent, little-known, weird stuff that i like. i don't need to name off a hundred fifty cajillion bands to make you think i'm cool, and i've already typed a lot as it is... so that's it. MUSIC IS MY LIFE !! :) | | Movies | you know, movies really are vital to a good relationship... you have to like the same movies or you won't be able to communicate... i know when i have a conversation, about 90% of what i say is movie quotes, and i hate it when no one knows what i'm talking about, or doesn't get the joke, it's a little awkward... as far as movies go, i'm such a child of the 80's. these are some movies we had on lazerdisk :D : the neverending story, tron, flight of the navigator, the princess bride, the original star wars, indiana jones, romancing the stone, Alien...
I love independent and foreign films. i have a thing for subtitles i guess.
some of my favorite contemporary classics are: so i married an axe murderer, pulp fiction as well as most tarantino films, donnie darko, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, edward scissorhands, and garden state.. i'm fond of scary movies, though i prefer suspense to horror, because too much blood and gore just makes me laugh, i think it's cheesy... i'm a pretty hard person to disturb. i don't get scared or depressed from movies. as if i don't get enough of that in real life. my perfect movie has just the right mix of action, drama, and suspense... romance is ok, sometimes, if it's creative enough... and i like to laugh, so comedies are always welcome.
favorite actor: johnny depp. favorite director: tim burton. favorite actress: angelina jolie. those three artists are brilliant, in my opinion. | | Television | I can't sleep if i watch the news... I'll stay up worrying about the world all night... I do like some stuff on comedy central occasionally if it's actually funny, but I never consciously sit down and watch TV. It rots your brain! i wish there was a channel that played nothing but 80's cartoons, like care bears, smurfs, he-man and rainbow brite. and... south park and the dave chappelle show. i'd watch it all day :D | | Books | i love the classics like robert louis stevenson, charles dickens, voltaire, jonathan swift, shakespeare... i did the bulk of my reading when i was very young... My parents had those nice hard-bound volumes of classic literature, and I read them cover to cover when I was about 10. Treasure Island, the complete works of shakespeare, Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, Wuthering Heights, Ivanhoe, David Copperfield, the complete works of Mark Twain. you name it. good stuff.
I also read the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe around then, which of course had a huge effect on me. Poe is still my favorite literary mind ever, and the author of my favorite poem, 'A Dream Within a Dream.'
contemporary authors i have enjoyed are joyce carol oates, john connolly, dean koontz, stephen king, william gibson, and anne rice.
I don't read enough anymore :(. I have to get back into the habit.
