After the noise dies down an unsettling silence descends faces peer
out hopefully from safe havensand through the clearing smoke The Purple
Hearts nonchalantly stumble into the line of fire, brandishing a belt full
of irresistible toons and their debut self-titled EP.
Out front is Captain Paul Medew. You know you've seen him before -
10 years with the Royal Custard Flying Squadron along side Flight Commander
McCormack - pulling out all manner of death defying manoeuvres that
had your ears plugged with CD Walkman buds all through the 90s. And it won't
take too many listens to The Purple Hearts to realise that was no supporting
rolesinger, songwriter, guitar ace and the sweetest bass lines in
all of Ho Chi Minh City.
Shoulder to shoulder finds First Lieutenant Tim Campbell. 6 years service
out front of Melbourne's Mrs Pinkwhistle flaunting a special ops level
of intelligence, multi-instrumental talents, boy band good looks and whip
smart charm. But it don't end there, oh no. The kid can pen a song.
Take an aural peek at the indie guitar pop of The Purple Hearts EP opener
, and there's plenty more where that came from. In fact they'd
probably shoot him themselves if he wasn't on their side.
Watching backs is Rear Gunner and Heavy Artillery dealer Cam Jones. With
an armoury of black market beats gleaned from years in the shadows of the
Melbourne music scene, his modus operandi is all built around precision and
knowing your target. Whether you like them smart, dirty or otherwise, this
guy's got the bombs. Slip him a tenner while he's off duty and
he'll take you through his collection out back.
So grab your forms from the recruitment officer kids and sign up. Basic training
commences immediately you take the EP for a spin. Make no mistake The Purple Hearts want you!
