   Walking To Werner's Blurbs
About me:
"Walking To Werner" is a documentary film by Linas Phillips. Inspired by legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog's many adventures on foot, Linas walks 1,200 miles from Seattle to Los Angeles in the hopes of meeting Werner and experiencing the world on foot. Look for dates as it tours the country this summer! Linas is also currently working to finish 2 new films, "Great Speeches From A Dying World" a film about 10 homeless people, featuring them performing famous speeches from history and "The Poetry Bus" about the Wave Books 50 day 50 city poetry tour.

I have an answer for the young fella with the question below...Linas' (over)use of the close-up (which Herzog despises, BTW) in his film was not merely because of practicality. For most of his walk Linas was forced to wear short-shorts which exposed his genitals in an uncomforable (for the passerby or layperson) manner. In the unedited footage, the old man who later calls Linas a woman asks Linas (rather insultingly) why he's walking around with a Vienna Sausage tied around his waist. I wouldn't exactly say that this guy was provoking Linas, but he certainly wasn't complimenting him. I believe Linas' later reaction to being called a woman is a result of this earlier encounter.

I hope that helps clear it up!

Hey!
I absolutely LOVED the film. It was breathetaking and I took a lot away from it. I just have one thing to pick your brain about because I am just very curious.
Why was it such a big issue to you that the person on the phone did not understand that you were a man? I am a Sociology and Women's and Gender Studies major, as well as board members of our university's two LGBTQ groups, so I deal with a lot of issues surrounding gender and gender roles, expectations, etc., and I am really just curious. Not criticising at all, I promise :)
