Walking Void is the collective effort of Dylan “Thor” Keenberg and Matt “10,000” Watts, two lowenders from Southern California. The concept began in 2005 as another eclectic-yet-unfounded group named Morose Code and has recently been revitalized in hopes to spread the influence of the electric bass as a lead instrument. For more information on the background of Morose Code and Walking Void, please read The Walking Void Preliminary Statement.
Walking Void is the vision of two very unique but like-minded individuals. Matt “10,000” Watts is an encyclopedia of metal in all its forms and due to this his playing is often heavy, harsh, and ominous. Watts uses both methodical finger style and furious picking in Walking Void and adds the elements of metal, doom, and noise to the composition pot. The 10ker is the man who gives Walking Void its overwhelming darkness, so thank him for that next time you see him.
Dylan “Thor” Keenberg, on the other hand, is the jazz bassist that has never played in a jazz band, instead concentrating on using his groove knowledge in progressive and alternative rock outfits. Thor’s six methods of finger style bass playing on both fretted and fretless five-string allow him to add anything from jazz to folk to black metal to Watts’ metal-oriented genius. The overall sound is a highly unique mix of metal, jazz and fusion that comes not simply from the instruments used but within the compositions themselves.
Hey guys! I posted a few pics but there are many more where those came from! Got some good pics last night so I will be posting those sometime today ;)
That's OK. I'm diggin' their stuff too. I guess nobody plays like them. Please try to get "Surface Tension" album. It's amazing! You will like it for sure.
But somewhere in Canada, in Victoria B.C., there is a band called NOMEANSNO. Two brothers Wright: Rob on bass and John on drums. In my opinion, their style is more outstanding and in some way even crucial. Thier music is the soup made from punk-rock, hardcore, jazz and whatever, spiced with energy and fresh ideas. They're inspiration for thousands bands, not only in the punk scene. They're really kick ass! My no.1 band since... 14 years! If you don't know them, you should meet music of these ol' canadian dudes. Especialy their stuff from the 80's and early 90's. Their first album "Mama"(1980) is based on bass. Then, they added some guitars, but in most of their albums, bass dominated eveything.
Good luck in discovering freaky music. Best regards. PxZ
Do you know SABOT? It's a two piece band (bass + drums) playing jazz-core. I think they're might be a huge inspiration for you guys. Good luck with your band.
Everything is wrong with that main thing! That track is sounding cool... I want more. By the way, that drummer is bitchin'. Drum machines have no SOUL!
