Intro-
Wall2Wall Music is a learning and participation programme for young musicians (14-19 years old). The programme is an informal opportunity that enables young musicians to interact and create music together. It aims to raise the expectations and support the ambitions of young musicians. The programme is open to instrumentalists and vocalists from all musical styles.
We want to develop this into an ongoing, open access programme, engaging young people from all backgrounds and skill levels in the creative process of making music. This programme could also be adapted for adults in the future.
If you are interested in future wall2wall music events or have any queries e-mail us on info@music55-7.com

1. Met John Adams and the London Symphony Orchestra
Wednesday 31 January 2007, University of Ulster Magee Campus
Introductory Talk and light refreshments followed by a live video conference with the London Symphony Orchestra and composer John Adams. There was an air of excitement in the room, 30 young people from different backgrounds and styles gathered to ask questions and listen to John Adams talk about composition. Everyone was excited because there were a number of other universities linked up, including universities from over seas. As can happen with events like this however, the technical system crashed two thirds of the way through the event, but really inspirational to hear what John Adams said never the less!

2. Guildhall Connect
Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th February 2007 Foyle Arts Building at Magee.
This was a weekend creative music making workshop with leading facilitators Sigrun Griffths and Cassius Maganga from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama Connect programme. Day 1 was for tutors looking to find out how to facilitate these workshops, Day 2 was for the young participants.
Everyone involved, who were from different backgrounds and musical styles, bonded.
Rock musicians, classical musicians and traditional musicians improvised together and created new music. The workshop broke down the boundaries between the genres, and opened the musicians up to explore new and alternative ideas.

5. Brian Irvine ensemble
Saturday 5th May 2007, Nerve Centre- in the end this turned out to be GRIME… The Great Improvised Music Experiment. It was particularly exhilarating and inspirational as Brian, winner of the 2006 British Composer Award, is a fantastic mentor and his high spirit had everyone on a roll to success, composing in many challenging ways!
The day ended with a performance at the City of Derry Jazz Festival.
"Exhilarating stuff... Brian Irvine's body of work is an example of the musical treasures
half hidden in the cracks between the categories... smart music in a culture that often
over rewards the dumb and/or the well connected" (The Guardian)
