About me:
Football in Wallsend can be dated back to 1897 when the then named Wallsend Park Villa joined the Northern Alliance League, in which they remained for 2 seasons.
In 1903 a Wallsend team took part in the FA Cup for the first time going out after a replay 1-0 at home to Stockton.
In 1908 Wallsend Park Villa joined the North Eastern League until they changed their name to Wallsend in 1912.
The club remained in the North Eastern League until 1933, never finishing any higher than midtable, although again entered the FA Cup in 1930 losing in the 3rd qualifying round. The Club then appeared to vanish during the war years and made the odd appearance as Wallsend Celtic.
In 1973 Wallsend Town joined the Wearside League and were crowned champions just 5 seasons later.
In 1975 Wallsend Town reached the 5th Round of the FA Vase going down 3-0 to Lincoln United only 3 matches from Wembley.
In 1981 Wallsend Town were welcolmed back into the Northern Alliance League finishing 6th in 1983, but again left the league after finishing 2nd bottom in 1986.
The club then vanished for a season and resurfaced as Wallsend Rising Sun, competing again in the Northern Alliance League in 1988, however the team never seemed to settle in its new set up and dropped out of the league following a disastorous season in 1994 ending the season bottom with only one point.
The Club had hit an all time low both on and off the pitch, following that awful season the club folded, some feeling that they would never return.
Alan James and Dave Grandini reformed the club in 1998, entering the Wearside League, a League that they had been champions of some 20 years earlier.
The team struggled to live up to the past and finished bottom for 2 consecutive seasons before going back to the Northern Alliance League Division 2 in the year 2000, following a merger with Wallsend United.
That is where the club remains today, although the club has been close to promotion on several occasions.
Despite all the clubs problems we have tried to keep the tradition of our link with the Romans, and Emporer Hadrian who founded our town, and gave it its name Segedunum, Latin for the Walls end. Our manager Dave Grandini is also of Italian decent and our badge shows a proud Roman Centurian.
The club today has a bright future. A reserve team has been formed and recently won promotion to the Tyneside Amateur League, and the club has a newly formed youth section or Academy with 6 teams competing in local youth leagues at the start of 2007-2008 season.
Wallsend Town Academy was set up to provide football activities for all children, no matter of race, gender, size, religion or ability, and have regualary over 70 children attending our weekly coaching sessions at our home ground, the Langdale Centre in the Howdon area of Wallsend.
The committee, players and supporters of Wallsend Town are all working hard to make the club successful in its ambitions, bringing in the right people to maintain and push the club forward.
We aim to give our Town a football Club to make them proud. Wallsend, so good the Romans stopped there!!!.
