Walter Paul Eilers: Right on Course by Michelle Parks (NWAnews.com - posted 4/17/05)
SELF PORTRAIT Date and place of birth: Nov. 30, 1943, Williamsport, Pa. Family: wife Linda and son Philip If I were not a consultant, I would own a bed-andbreakfast in a Victorian home in Cape May, N. J., and specialize in cooking, chocolate and American author weekends. I would love to have a dinner discussion with Bill Clinton, Jerry Jeff Walker, Greg Iles, Ellen Gilchrist and Jonas Salk. My favorite meal is anything Cajun. My best time of the day is in the morning after I run, read the paper and have my coffee. I am ready to conquer the world. This year, I’m either going to re-learn how to fly-fish or learn to kayak. The thing I like best about the people in Fayetteville is that they are articulate, interesting and willing to consider an opinion. I want to be remembered for making a difference. One word to sum me up: persistent
FAYETTEVILLE — For Walt Eilers, a salesman and a runner, his persistence and patience serve him well.

In the Running: Race for Cure Chairman Champions Cause by Marla Hinkle (The Morning News - posted 4/9/2005)
FAYETTEVILLE -- If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem. This lesson Walt Eilers' mother imparted has created a lasting impression on his life.
Whether Eilers is helping raise money for health or environmental issues, his impact has resounded throughout Northwest Arkansas. And although the Fayetteville resident isn't a native Arkansan, friends said it seems like he's been here his whole life.
Eilers balances a packed schedule as this year's Race for the Cure chairman. He taps the surface of his PDA with a stylus from his seat at the Inn at Carnall Hall on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.
The day has already begun for the dynamic fund-raising guru long before his 8 a.m. meeting. He managed to go for a run before breakfast at Ella's Restaurant.

A Note from the Candidate
When I first arrived in Fayetteville in 1986 to do the Old Main preservation study I developed a passion for the place, its people and its uniqueness. In 2000 Linda and I chose to move to Fayetteville as the place to spend our lives. I became involved and immersed myself in the community.
I chose to run for Mayor as Fayetteville faces significant financial, strategic planning and growth challenges. As Fayetteville's Mayor I will collaborate with the Council and community to creatively address its challenges.
My passion is to chart Fayetteville's future through balancing growth, diversifying our revenue base and enhancing the citizens' Quality of Life. My passion combined with my skills will continue Fayetteville among the most livable cities in America.
As Mayor I will enhance communications through personal contacts and expanded use of technology to reach more citizens or allow them to reach me. The Access Fayetteville website will be an educational tool and a resource for citizens. The Mayor must be accessible to the residents to listen to their ideas and concerns and to inform them of progress in our Quality of Life. I will participate in Council of Neighborhood, ward meetings and community events.
Listener, bridge builder, people person, problem solver and innovator describe my skill set. Forty years of leadership in corporate and nonprofit organizations honed my qualifications. The ability to work with people, even those with whom I do not agree, and to reach win-win solutions is my greatest asset.
My careers included educator, cellular and broadband technologies corporate marketing executive, chief negotiator, association chief executive, marketing researcher and independent fundraising consultant.
At one time, I negotiated for 4,000 employees, directed a staff of 400, launched a successful IPO, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, negotiated involved salary and FCC contracts and coached organizations to enhance their board leadership, raise private money and research and write grants.
I have been active for four decades on community boards, commissions and task forces to address local civic, social and economic challenges (homelessness, aids, water quality/flooding, education, parks/trails, roads, downtown development, land trust and festivals) similar to those now facing Fayetteville.
