Probably out of all these the two bands i would see over any others are the Levellers and alabama3 ... Not only is it great music but music with meaning.

Fearless (Jet Li) Twighlight Samurai, Farewell My Concubine, The Crow, It's a Wonderful Life, Thunderheart, In the Mood for Love, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Snapper, The commitments, Blade runner, Akira ... and many many others including of course the Star Wars oginal trilogy, and most studio ghibli movies.
Television
Wildlife programmes, documentaries, classic british comedies like The young Ones, blackadder, Red Dwarf, Drop the Dead donkey, father ted ...
then of course, South Park,... dislike with a passion brain killing, opiate for the masses shows like Big Brother, and shows or movies or adverts for that matter any media which gives in to stereotyping and general ingrained unacceptance prejudice, race, sex, sexuality and so on.

The Belgariad, The lord of the Rings, The Snapper and The women who walked into doors both by Roddy Doyle, Creek Mary's Blood, Waiting (by Ha Jin) Bury my heart at wounded Knee, Persuasion Jane austen, A Christmas Carol Charles dickens; and many others fiction and non fiction. Tao Te Ching Derek Lin (Dereks a friend of mine and is a real treasure i heartily recomend his transaltion complete with his wise interpretations.) The Sociological imagination by C Wright-Mills, Mark Steel, Mark Thomas, and general social observations etc.
